March 29th 2008-Makuhari Messe, Chiba City, Chiba, Japan Takefumi Sakata (31-4-2, 15) vs Shingo Yamaguchi (22-4-2, 8) Back in March 2008 Japanese fight fans saws an all Japanese world title bout, as WBA Flyweight champion Takefumi Sakata [坂田健史] took on Shingo Yamaguchi [山口真吾], with Sakata seeking his third defense of the title that he had won a year earlier. November 4th 2007-Super Arena, Saitama, Saitama, Japan Takefumi Sakata (31-4-1, 15) Vs Denkaosan Kaovichit (40-1, 16) In 2007 Takefumi Sakata [坂田健史], the then WBA Flyweight champion, sought his second defense as he took on Thailand's Denkaosan Kaovichit [เด่นเก้าแสน เก้าวิชิต] in a dramatic bout that saw the result being decided in the final round. Due to the controversial nature of this bout the two men would rematch just 13 months. July 1st 2007-Ariake Colosseum, Tokyo, Japan Takefumi Sakata (30-4-1, 15) vs Roberto Vasquez (24-1, 17) II December 2006 Japan's Takefumi Sakata [坂田健史] lost a razor thin split decision to Panama's Roberto Vasquez in a bout for the WBA "Interim" Flyweight title. Just 3 months later Sakata would go on to win the WBA "regular" title, stopping Venezuelan nemesis Lorenzo Parra in the third bout. This put Sakata and Vasquez on collision course for a rematch, which they had in the summer of 2007. March 19th 2007-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Takefumi Sakata (29-4-1, 14) vs Lorenzo Parra (28-0, 17) III In 2004 and 2005 Japan's Takefumi Sakata [坂田健史] lost close majority decisions to Lorenzo Parra, coming up short to the then WBA Flyweight champion. In 2007 the men clashed for a third time. This time Parra had failed to make weight, being stripped of the title on the scales, but the belt was still on the line for Sakata, who was desperate to make the most of his third shot at the belt. December 2nd 2006-Palais Omnisport de Paris-Bercy, Paris, Paris, France Takefumi Sakata (29-3-1, 14) vs Roberto Vasquez (23-1, 17) I In late 2006 Japan's Takefumi Sakata [坂田健史] faced off with the once beaten Roberto Vasquez in a bout for the WBA "interim" Flyweight title. Despite one man being from Japan and the other from Panama this bout took place in France on a pretty stacked card in Paris. April 18th 2005-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Takefumi Sakata (22-2-1, 9) vs Priyaphong Yansa (0-0) In 2004 Takefumi Sakata [坂田健史] engaged in a thrilling, tough, hard battle for the WBA Flyweight title, losing a close decision to Lorenzo Parra. That bout resulted in Sakata suffering a nasty injury that kept him out of the ring for the better part of a year. When he returned he faced Thai youngster Priyaphong Yansa, aka Korngthranee Soonkilarnoinai. April 5th 2003-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Takefumi Sakata (19-1-1, 8) vs Trash Nakanuma (23-2, 10) II In 2003 we got the second brilliant and thrilling bout between Takefumi Sakata [坂田健史] and Trash Nakanuma [トラッシュ中沼]. This bout was a Champion Carnival bout which saw Sakata enter as the mandatory challenger to Nakanuma, who had won the title from Sakata a year earlier. April 30th 2002-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Takefumi Sakata (17-0-1, 7) vs Trash Nakanuma (20-2, 8) I In 2002 Takefumi Sakata [坂田健史], the then Japanese Flyweight champion, took on Trash Nakanuma [トラッシュ中沼], in the first of 2 bouts between the fighters who would clash for a second time the following year. April 9th 2001-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Takefumi Sakata (14-0, 6) vs Masaki Kawabata (17-4-2, 9) In 2001 Japanese fight fans saw the then unbeaten Takefumi Sakata battle against former world title challenger Masaki Kawabata in a bout for the Japanese Flyweight title. |
