November 27th 2009-Future Park Plaza, Rangsit, Thailand Oleydong Sithsamerchai (32-0, 12) Vs Juan Palacios (26-2, 21) One of the more notable Thai's of recent times is Oleydong Sithsamerchai [โอเล่ห์ดง ซีพีเฟรชมาร์ท], a former WBC Minimumweight champion is currently angling, albeit slowly, towards a Super Flyweight title fight. One of Oleydong's bouts down at 105lbs saw him take on tough Nicaraguan Juan Palacios. November 24th 2015-Chonburi, Thailand Oleydong Sithsamerchai (57-1-1, 22) v Oke Haryanto (5-6-1, 2) Some bouts are shameful and embarassing to the sport. One such contest saw former world champion Oleydong Sithsamerchai "fight" against Oke Haryanto, a man who simply looked unable to fight. We won't ruin this one too much, but it certainly doesn't last long. October 08th 2015-Siam Paradise Entertainment Centre, Ngam Wong Wan Bangkok, Thailand Oleydong Sithsamerchai (56-1-1, 21) vs Petchmai Sor Praithong (0-5) Former WBC Minimumweight champion Oleydong Sithsamerchai has one of the most impressive records, in terms of numbers, of any active fighters. He recently took part in his 59th pro bout as he took on limited foe Petchmai Sor Praithong. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) February 11th 2011-World Memorial Hall, Kobe, Hyogo, Japan Oleydong Sithsamerchai (35-0-1, 13) Vs Kazuto Ioka (6-0, 4) Today the Japanese boxing scene seems to be pushing out a new youngster every year with Naoya Inoue being followed by Kosei Tanaka and it seems that next up will be Hinata Maruta. A few years ago the man to watch was Kazuto Ioka who took a huge step up in class in his 7th pro bout as he faced Thailand's unbeaten Oleydong Sithsamerchai for the WBC Minimumweight title. In the west many though Kazunori and Hiroki Ioka were throwing their young charge to the proverbial wolves March 27th 2015-Thailand Oleydong Sithsamerchai (55-1-1, 21) Vs Rasmanudin (19-8-3, 10) One thing about Thailand that we like is that the country keeps it's fighters busy and there are few fighters who have been as busy as Oleydong Sithsamerchai, the former WBC Minimumweight champion. This past Friday Oleydong fought for the 58th time in his career as he fought Indonesian visitor Rasmanudin, a formerly world ranked fighter himself. [Note-Oleydong now fights as Oleydong CP Freshmart] (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) May 29th 2009- Bangla Stadium , Patong, Phuket, Thailand Oleydong Sithsamerchai (30-0, 12) Vs Muhammad Rachman (62-7-5, 32) Boxing is full of talented fighters who we seem to think are less talented than they are. Two such fighters are Oleydong Sithsamerchai and Muhammad Rachman. These two men fought back in 2009 when Oleydong was the WBC Minimumweight champion and unbeaten fighter making his 3rd world title defence which Rachman was viewed as a as a man who had seen better days following losses to Florante Condes and Milan Melindo in 2 of his previous 3 bouts. (Note-Sound quality here is poor at times, we're very sorry about that) We all know that the Minimumweight division is one of the sports most over-looked divisions despite many talented fighters passing through it, especially in recent years. The problem for the division is typically the fact fighters can't stay there for the length of a career. After all 105lbs is next to nothing for a fighter who matures from a young professional to a fully grown man. The issue of growing out of the division is certainly something that effected Oleydong Sithsamerchai who turned professional in 2002 at 105lbs and remained in the division until 2011 when he suffered his first, and so far only, loss, a stoppage to Kazuto Ioka. For more than 3 years he held the WBC world title and defended it successfully 6 time before the loss to Ioka. The last of those successful defences came in his second meeting with Pornsawan Porpramook, a future WBA world champion. At times early on Oleydong looked sensational though at other times it was clear he was struggling with the 105lb limit. He lacked the power to back up Porpramook, at times he lacked the bounce in his step to escape his fellow Thai and he fought very much like a man who knew he wasn't his usual self and one who would later suffer what appeared to be a leg injury. We won't ruin much more of the fight though we would advise you keep a close eye on the very interesting 6th round, as well as the fighters reactions at the end of the bout, which included Porpramook doing push ups in the ring as if to suggest he found the bout easy. If at first you don't succeed try, try again. That seemed to be what was on the mind of Oleydong Sithsamerchai when he took on Indonesian journeyman Falazona Fidal for the third time in little over 18 months. In the previous meetings between the two men Fidal had always found a way to the final. This time around Oleydong managed to see off the Indonesian with a well placed body shot that sent Fidal down. Although he beat the count the referee stopped the bout, despite some protestation from the Indonesian fighter who appeared to be less hurt than he was just a few moments earlier. (Note-Oleydong was introduced as "Oleydong CP Freshmart") |
