Hozumi Hasegawa (32-4, 14) Vs Genaro Camargo (42-15, 34) Japan's Hozumi Hasegawa [長谷川 穂積] is still one of the countries most popular fighters, despite being a long way from his prime. (Note-The fight begins about 10:55 into the video) December 11th 2015-Central Gym, Kobe, Hyogo, Japan Hozumi Hasegawa (34-5, 15) Vs Carlos Andres Ruiz Machuca (14-1, 5) Earlier this week Japanese fans got the chance to see the great Hozumi Hasegawa battle against the little known Carlos Andres Ruiz Machuca on a show televised by Japanese TV. For those who missed it, here is that fight. An alternative version of this fight, filmed by a fan, can be seen here. December 11th 2015-Central Gym, Kobe, Hyogo, Japan Hozumi Hasegawa (34-5, 15) Vs Carlos Andres Ruiz Machuca (14-1, 5) For 5 years, 2005-2010, Hozumi Hasegawa was one of the Bantamweight stars and a key figure in Japanese boxing. His reign might not have attracted the attention of European or American fans but it was an impressive one with wins over Veeraphol Sahaprom, Simpiwe Vetyeka and Vusi Malinga being very notable. Sadly Hasegawa has fought on, well past his best, and at times has looked like a mere shadow of the fighter he once was. That was recently the case when he faced Mexican fighter Carlos Andres Ruiz Machuca. (Footage courtesy of nov K) October 16th 2008-Yoyogi First Gym, Tokyo, Japan Hozumi Hasegawa (24-2, 8) Vs Alejandro Valdez (21-2-1, 15) The brilliant Hozumi Hasegawa had an excellent reign as the WBC Bantamweight kingpin in the 00's. His 7th defence of that title came against Mexican fighter Alejandro Valdez, who on paper was a well qualified challenger who had gone 16-0-1 in the previous 4 years. June 12th 2008-Nippon Budokan, Tokyo, Japan Hozumi Hasegawa (23-2, 7) Vs Cristian Faccio (15-2, 10) When we talk about exciting Bantamweights it's hard to ignore former WBC champion Hozumi Hasegawa who really was incredibly exciting with his speed, combinations, and criminally under-rated power. Those traits were on show numerous times when he was a world champion, including this bout against Uruguayan challenger Cristian Faccio who generally seemed to show too much respect too Hasegawa before tasting that truly under-rated power. |
