One of the most recent Japanese boxing legends is Hozumi Hasegawa [長谷川穂積] who's final professional bout saw him take on huge punching Mexican Hugo Ruiz in a bout for Ruiz's WBC Super Bantamweight world title.

April 8th 2011-World Memorial Hall, Kobe, Hyogo, Japan Hozumi Hasegawa (29-3, 12) Vs Jhonny Gonzalez (47-7, 41) In 2011 we saw WBC Featherweight champion Hozumi Hasegawa [長谷川 穂積] take on huge Mexican puncher Jhonny Gonzalez at the World Memoria Hall in Kobe. For Hasegawa this was his first defense after claiming the title the previous November as he looked to replicate his success as a Bantamweight, where he made 10 defenses of the WBC title. Gonzalez on the other hand was looking to become a 2-weight champion himself, following a reign as the WBO Bantamweight champion. November 26th 2010-Nihon Gaishi Hall, Nagoya, Aichi, Japan Hozumi Hasegawa (28-3, 12) vs Juan Carlos Burgos (25-0, 18) After losing the WBC Bantamweight title to Fernando Montiel we saw Hozumi Hasegawa [長谷川 穂積] move up in weight, going straight to Featherweight, to take on the unbeaten Juan Carlos Burgos for the vacant WBC title. April 30th 2010-Nippon Budokan, Tokyo, Japan Hozumi Hasegawa (28-2, 12) Vs Fernando Montiel (41-2-2, 31) One of the biggest bouts in Asia in 2010 saw WBC Bantamweight champion Hozumi Hasegawa [長谷川穂積], seeking his 11th defense, take on WBO champion Fernando Montiel. On paper this was big, and although the JBC didn't recognise the WBO title at the time the bout was still a huge contest for the division, pitting two of the best at 118lb fighters at the time against each other. December 18th 2009-World Memorial Hall, Kobe, Hyogo, Japan Hozumi Hasegawa (27-2, 11) vs Alvaro Perez (17-1-1, 12) In 2009 WBC Bantamweight champion Hozumi Hasegawa [長谷川 穂積] took on Nicaraguan challenger Alvaro Perez. July 14th 2009-World Memorial Hall, Kobe, Hyogo, Japan Hozumi Hasegawa (26-2, 10) vs Nestor Rocha (21-1, 7) In 2009 we saw Japanese ace Hozumi Hasegawa [長谷川 穂積] fight 3 times, for a combined 7 rounds. One of those bouts saw him taking on American Nestor Rocha, who was challenge Hasegawa for the WBC Bantamweight title, with Haswgawa looking for his 9th defense of the title. March 12th 2009-World Memorial Hall, Kobe, Hyogo, Japan Hozumi Hasegawa (25-2, 9) vs Vusi Malinga (18-2-1, 11) One of the most impressive performances from Hozumi Hasegawa [長谷川 穂積] was his 2009 clash with South African Vusi Malinga. Coming in to the bout Hasegawa was the WBC Bantamweight champion whilst Malinga was a mandatory challenger, who had earned his shot by stopping former 2-time champion Veeraphol Sahaprom in an eliminator. October 16th 2008-Yoyogi First Gym, Tokyo, Japan Hozumi Hasegawa (24-2, 8) vs Alejandro Valdez (21-2-1, 15) In his 7th defense of the WBC Bantamweight title Japan's Hozumi Hasegawa [長谷川 穂積] took on Mexican challenger Alejandro Valdez in Tokyo. June 12th 2008-Nippon Budokan, Tokyo, Japan Hozumi Hasegawa (23-2, 7) Vs Cristian Faccio (15-2, 10) Right now the Bantamweight division is one of the most interesting, and it has been for quite some time. Right now Japanese has one of the biggest names in the division, with Naoya Inoue. Around a decade they also had one of the stars of the division with the then WBC champion Hozumi Hasegawa [長谷川 穂積]. Here we see Hasegawa take on Cristian Faccio, from Uruguay, back in the Summer of 2008. January 10th 2008-Prefectural Gymnasium, Osaka, Osaka, Japan Hozumi Hasegawa (22-2, 7) vs Simone Maludrottu (26-1, 10) In early 2008 Japanese star Hozumi Hasegawa [長谷川 穂積] made his fifth defense of the WBC Bantamweight title.
