October 2nd 1988-Seoul, South Korea Kwang Sun Kim Vs Andreas Tews Korean fighter Kwang Sun Kim [김광선] fought only 8 times as a professional, losing in two world title bouts. His short professional career did however come after a distinguished amateur career that was highlighted in 1988 at the Olympic games. July 2nd 1994-Mirage Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Jae Won Choi (18-0, 8) Vs Wilfredo Vazquez (39-6-2, 31) In 1994 unbeaten Korean Jae Won Choi [최재원] got his sole world title shot as he went up against the destructive Wilfredo Vazquez, the then WBA Super Bantamweight champion. June 24th 2016-Sarhadchi Sport Olympic Centre, Baku, Azerbaijan Erdenbaat Tsendbaatar Vs Arashi Morisaka One of the 56KG semi-finals at the recent Olympic games qualifying event was an all Asian affair as Mongolian Erdenbaat Tsendbaatar, who had faced a young Kosei Tanaka in the 2013 Asian Youth Champions, battled Arashi Morisaka. June 24th 2016-Sarhadchi Sport Olympic Centre, Baku, Azerbaijan Lai Chu En Vs Enrico Le Cruz The recent Olympic qualifier threw us some interesting names for the future, including Chinese Taipei's Lai Chu En, who made his way to the semi final of the 56KG division, where he faced Enrico Le Cruz. June 24th 2016-Sarhadchi Sport Olympic Centre, Baku, Azerbaijan Manoj Kumar Vs Pat McCormack In June amateur boxing had it's final Qualifier for the 2016 Olympics and among those in action was Indian amateur star Manoj Kumar who faced Pat McCormack in the semi final at the 64KG's. |
