October 31st 2014-SuperClub, Pskov, Russia Rivo Rengkung (32-20-6, 12) Vs Andrey Bogdanov (18-1-1, 6) In 2014 Indonesian fighter Rivo Rengkung took on Russian Andrey Bogdanov. May 9th 2010-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Takuya Kogawa (15-1, 9) vs Numphonnoi Patanakan Gym (0-0) Japan's Takuya Kogawa [粉川 拓也] has long been one of boxing's most under-rated fighters, here we see him in "prelude" bout against Thailand's Numphonnoi Patanakan Gym, a fight later Kogawa would claim an OPBF title before later facing Pongsaklek Wonjongkam in a WBC world title fight. Note-Numphonnoi was listed as being 12-5 (2) by the on screen graphic. June 13th 1999-Sheraton Walker Hill Hotel, Seoul, South Korea In-Joo Cho (14-0, 6) vs Pone Saengmorakot (18-0, 6) One of the final Korean world champions was In Joo Cho [조인주], who held the WBC Super Flyweight title for around 2 years. Here we see the Korean battle unbeaten challenger Pone Saengmorakot of Thailand. April 27th 1987-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Tomohiro Kiyuna (17-2, 7) v Seiji Tomari (14-2, 8) In 1986 Japan's Tomohiro Kiyuna challenged for a Light Flyweight world title, coming up short against Myung Woo Yuh. Over the years that followed he managed to make a name for himself on the Japanese domestic scene, having several reigns as a Japanese champion. One of his notable domestic rivalries was against Seiji Tomari, with the two men meeting twice. Here is their first meeting, which came 15 months before their rematch. Before becoming the WBC champion he was the Japanese champion, winning the national title in 2010, over-coming Mikio Yasuda [安田幹男]. February 27th 1975-Metropolitan Gym, Tokyo, Japan Guts Ishimatsu (28-11-6, 16) Vs Ken Buchanan (56-2, 25) In 1975 Japanese fans saw local fighter Guts Ishimatsu [ガッツ 石松] take on Ken Buchanan the bout was the third defense of the WBC Lightweight title by Ishimatsu whilst Buchanan was hoping to become a 2-time world champion. March 15th 1984-Osaka-Jo Hall, Osaka, Osaka, Japan Jiro Watanabe (20-1, 13) vs Celso Chavez (16-0-1, 14) In his 6th defense of the WBA Super Flyweight title Jiro Watanabe [渡辺二郎] took on unbeaten puncher Celso Chavez from Panama. Coming in to this Chavez was unbeaten and had won 16 successive bouts following a draw on his debut. |
