This would be Toguchi's only world title challenge and unfortunately it came against someone as brilliant Yuri.

In 1997 the two men rematched. September 11th 1990-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Joichiro Tatsuyoshi (3-0, 3) vs Shigeru Okabe (16-1, 8) In 1990 Joichiro Tatsuyoshi [辰吉丈一郎] fought in his first title fight, as he challenged Japanese Bantamweight champion Shigeru Okabe [岡部繁], who was looking to make the second defense of the title. September 22nd 1997-Tokyo, Japan Puma Toguchi (19-3, 16) vs Jaime Aliguin (19-29-4, 6) Japan's popular Puma Toguchi [ピューマ渡久地] fought in a number of world title fights and although he failed to claim a world title he did face some of the best fighters in the world during his prime years. Here we see in with a less bout as he battles Filipino Jamie Aliguin. April 20th 1993-Tokyo, Japan Puma Toguchi (12-0, 11) Vs Jesus Rojas (22-4-2, 9) In 1993 Japan's popular Puma Toguchi [ピューマ渡久地] took a big step up and faced former world champion Jesus Rojas, a man who later become a 2-weight world champion February 27th 1989-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Puma Toguchi (4-0, 4) Vs Yasunobu Yoshida (1-0) Here we have an early career bout featuring the popular Puma Toguchi [ピューマ渡久地], who was facing off against Yasunobu Yoshida [安信吉田]. July 21st 1997-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Puma Toguchi (18-3, 15) vs Eric Chavez (39-12-4, 25) In 1997 Japan's popular Puma Toguchi [ピューマ渡久地] battled former world champion Eric Chavez, of the Philippines. Chavez was a shadow of the fighter he had once been but was still a name opponent, despite having gone 13-12-1 in his previous 26 bouts, following a 26-0-3 start to his professional career. March 19th 1990-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Puma Toguchi (9-0, 9) vs Yosuke Matsuoka (18-5-3, 6) In 1990 Japan's popular Puma Toguchi [ピューマ渡久地] took part in his first title fight, a Japanese Flyweight title bout with Yosuke Matsuoka [松岡洋右]. January 23rd 1964-Rajadamnern Stadium, Bangkok, Thailand Hiroyuki Ebihara (38-1-1, 22) Vs Pone Kingpetch (26-5, 8) II In 1963 Japan's Hiroyuki Ebihara [海老原 博幸] scored an opening round KO against Thailand's Pone Kingpetch [โผน กิ่งเพชร] to dethrone the Thai of the WBA and WBC Flyweight titles. The following year the two men rematched with Ebihara travelling to Thailand for the contest. June 17th 1977-Palacio de los Deportes, Madrid, Comunidad de Madrid, Spain Saensak Muangsurin (8-1, 7) vs Perico Fernandez (40-4-10, 22) In 1975 Thailand's Saensak Muangsurin [แสนศักดิ์ เมืองสุรินทร์] set a world record by winning a world title in his 3rd professional bout, stopping Perico Fernandez in 8 rounds. In 1977 the two men rematched in Spain with a vociferous crowd supporting the local star. |
