December 22nd 2013- Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Koki Tyson Maebara (4-1-1, 4) Vs Wataru Seino (4-1, 4) One of the great things about the Rookie of the Year is that we get brilliant looking match ups between relatively evenly matched fighters. One such even match up came in the 2013 Rookie of the Year Middleweight final when Koki Tyson Maebara battled against Wataru Seino. On paper this promised explosive action and in the end we did some fireworks. (Video courtesy of 851325nknknk)

November 18th 2012- Convention Center, Ginowan, Okinawa, Japan Go Onaga (17-2-2, 12) Vs Jaypee Otilla (9-4-2, 6) IBF world ranked Super Flyweight Go Onaga might not be a huge name but he is one of the many fighters who is playing his trade under the Ohashi gym banner. Sadly unlike more famous stablemates, such as Naoya Inoue and Akira Yaegashi, footage of Onaga is relative sparse. Thankfully for those wanting to see him in action we have come across this bout between Onaga and Filipino Jaypee Otilla. The eagle eyed among you may actually recognise a very young looking Ryo Matsumoto near the beginning of this video. Just over 2 months later Nampetch, who had just turned 15, returned to the ring to defend her title, the WBC Asian Boxing Council Continental female Light Flyweight title, against Cai Zongju. Not only was Nampetch young when she debuted but she was also very young, just 14, when she fought for her first title, battling against the then unbeaten Kanda Por Muangpetch for the WBC Asian Boxing Council Continental female Light Flyweight title. Since then Jaipetch has been incredibly active fighting 3 times, with the most recent of those being January 12th against the world ranked Takumi Sakae, whilst Denchai has fought once, winning a decision over Namphil Sithsaithong. Just 2 months after their first meeting the men were again in the ring together in what was perhaps not the most anticipated rematch of all time, though was just as enjoyable as their first contest. (Video courtesy of www.tko.in.th) January 23rd 2015- NCO Club, Royal Thai Airforce, Bangkok, Thailand Jirapan Nakornluang (1-0, 1) Vs Ratchsai Himalaigym (0-0) Last December we were taken about by a Thai debut who looked like one of the most promising fighters we'd seen in the country. That was Jirapan Nakornluang, who impressed us when he beat fellow debutant Toto Lookmuangbangklang, having been impressed we were really hoping to get the chance to see him again without need to wait too long. Our wait was ended just weeks after his debut as he battled against Ratchsai Himalaigym, himself a debutant who appears to have some natural ability. Since that bout he he has continued to some reckless abandon for defence though has managed to find himself in some brilliant fights, including this one with Indonesian Rendi Stone for the WBC Youth Super Flyweight title. If you like insane pressure you will love this and you will love Kongfah who must be nightmare for fans of the sweet science. The first of those bouts saw Suriyan destroy Tony Arema in November whilst the second is this bout, against the debuting Daoden Sithsaithong. (Video courtesy of our friends at www.tko.in.th) September 9th 2006- Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Suguru Muranaka (6-1, 2) Vs Toyoto Shiraishi (6-0-1, 2) The Rookie of the Year tournament is one of the key features of the Japanese boxing scene as rookies get matched in competitive bouts in an attempt to win the tournament. In 2006 one of the regional Flyweight bouts saw Suguru Muranaka battle against Toyoto Shiraishi in what was a brilliant match up at the time and a fight that helped both men become the fighters they are today. For what it's worth Muranaka is the current Flyweight champion whilst Shiraishi has fought for both the Japanese and Oriental titles at Super Flyweight. (Video courtesy of 村中優後援会) March 29th 2005- Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Suguru Muranaka (1-0, 1) Vs Hayabusa Uhara (2-5-3, 1) Current Japanese Flyweight champion Suguru Muranaka has had a very long road to the top and one of the first steps he took saw him battling against Hayabusa Uhara, a very tough southpaw.
