September 27th 2015-EDION Arena Osaka, Osaka, Osaka, Japan Sho Ishida (19-0, 10) Vs Hayato Kimura (23-7, 15) Earlier this year Japanese fans had the chance to see Kazuto Ioka defend his WBA Flyweight title against Roberto Domingo Sosa. On the same card Ioka's stablemate Sho Ishida was in action defending his Japanese Super Flyweight title against the experienced Hayato Kimura.

April 22nd 2015- Prefectural Gymnasium, Osaka, Osaka, Japan Sho Ishida (18-0, 10) Vs Taiki Eto (14-3, 10) Through his first 15 fights Sho Ishida had rarely lost a round. He had struggled in fight #16 as he claimed the Japanese Super Flyweight title, with a very well earned win over Yohei Tobe, but that was expected as he had his first taste of a title bout. In his second defense of that title Ishida took on Taiki Eto, a man who had been stopped by Tobe. Given their relative results against Tobe we had expected this to be a foregone conclusion however this turned out to be much more competitive than we had anticipated. Another man hoping to make it to that level is Sho Ishida who made his first defense of the Japanese title last December when he took on the over-matched Masato Morisaki. For those who missed that bout here it is in it's entirety. Some bouts are total mismatches though get over-looked due to the fact they are mid-way down the card. One such example was Sho Ishida's bout with Thai dabutant Chaloemphon Bor Patang which took place on December 31st 2012 and lasted almost long enough to pour yourself a New Year's Drink...that's if you drink shots. Ishida quickly established his sharp jab and seemed to immediately scare his Thai foe who toppled over from a single left hook as if he'd be smashed with a bat. It was an embarrassing to go down though he appeared to be fully aware that he was out matched and decided he'd take his quickest escape route from the bout, lasting just 46 seconds. It may be worth noting that the Thai involved here hasn't fought since this bout whilst Ishida is now set to fight for a Japanese national title. (Video courtesy of yossy112311) This video section of this site hasn't just been put up to watch some great fighters and some fantastic action. It is also on here to see the development of fighters over time, to see how the develop both their skills and their physical traits, often growing from boys to men, from contenders to champions. One fighter that we love is Sho Ishida who has become one of Japanese boxing's top prospects in recent fights. Had you first saw him in this fight from May 2013 you may actually be surprised by his serious development in recent fights. This bout saw Ishida fighting against Thailand's little known Tawanrung Eausampan. Tawanrung had been blasted out in 2 rounds in his previous fight by rising Filipino star Albert Pagara and many had expected Ishida to do the same. Instead Ishida got 8 very good rounds from Tawanrung, actually losing some of the rounds on one of the scorecards. It seems that the bout did a lot to help Ishida find his strengths and weaknesses and he's gone from strength to strength after the bout. Interesting for Tawanrung his very next fight saw him going 10 rounds with Filipino Froilan Saludar. Having gone the distance with both Saludar and Ishida you may be wondering how Pagara stopped him, but having seen that fight we would say it was a somewhat premature stoppage and Tawanrung was looking full in control of himself when the referee waved off the bout following a mandatory 8 count. (Video courtesy of Yossy112311) When we think of body punches we don't typically think of long, wiry, tall fighters but in the case of Sho Ishida we perhaps need to re-write the rules book. On September 11th 2013 Ishida scored a fabulous victory over Petchbarngborn Kokietgym with a body shot and just a few months later he did the same to Petchbarngborn's Thai compatriot Brukluk Kor Narong Service who was taken out with a sickening shot to the gut. Of course this was at a lower level than the victory over Petchbarngborn but it was still a solid body shot from Ishida who is perhaps going to get a reputation for the gut busters. This was a mismatch from when it was signed but the manner in which Ishida finished the job was spectacular and well worth watching the video for. (Video courtesy of Yossy112311) The Ioka boxing gym is lacking a world champion right now but it has a wealth of talent with fighters like former world champions Kazuto Ioka and Ryo Miyazaki, OPBF Lightweight champion Masayoshi Nakatani and the excellent Sho Ishida. Although Ishida is still just a rising prospect he really came of age last year when he took a huge step up and took on Thailand's Petchbarngnorn Kokietgym. At the time Petchbarngborn was world ranked, he was the WBO Oriental Super Flyweight champion and PABA champion and widely regarded as not just a serious test for Ishida but as a man who could potentially defeat the Japanese prospect. What we got instead was a sterling performance by the Japanese fighter who showed poise, speed, confidence, movement and, at the end of the bout, very surprising power. Going in it's worth noting that the Thai had never previously been stopped, that was until Ishida landed a perfect body shot that did a lot more harm than first expected.
