There is a very silly misconception about female boxing that suggests fighters aren't skilled and don't have the IQ of their male counter parts. Whilst there are fewer highly skilled females in the sport some are still elite level fighters, one of which is fantastic Naoko Fujioka who, in 2013, abandoned the Minimumweight. She wasn't struggling with weight but instead with challenges with no one able to really give her a good fight. Instead of doing what most fighters do and testing herself against fighters a division up Fujioka jumped from 105lbs to 115lbs and took on the heavy handed Naoko Yamaguchi and really made it look easy as she clearly beat her compatriot, the then WBA female champion at Super Flyweight. It was real proof that Fujioka was simply on her own with her skills, speed, power and IQ being far beyond that of her domestic rival. It was, if proof, if was ever needed, that she was a special fighter. We hope you enjoy this masterclass by one of female boxing's most talented individuals who proved that size alone wasn't enough to over-come exceptional skills. (Video courtesy of Yoko Gushiken)
