December 7th 2013- Barangay Buayang Bato, Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila, Philippines Kaito Hattori (0-0) Vs Mike Kinaadman (0-1) Not every country has the same minimum age requirement as each other and as a result we sometimes see incredibly young fighters making their debut in countries other than those they have called home. One such fighter is Riku Kano who has been making his name in the Philippines and in Thailand. Another young man who hoping to also make his name was Kaito Hattori who debuted aged 16 against Filipino fighter Mike Kinaadman in the Philippines on the same show that Kano debuted on. Sadly however for Hattori this would be his only professional bout before he sadly passed away in 2015 aged just 17. (Video courtesy of yasubu0731)

May 19th 2012- Palenque de la Feria, Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico Denver Cuello (30-4-6, 20) vs Ganigan Lopez (20-4, 14) Exciting Filipino slugger Denver Cuello has been one of the best "little men" in boxing for the last few years. Among his most notable bouts was a WBC silver Minimumweight title fight against Mexican contender Ganigan Lopez, himself a talented and heavy handed fighter. This was, essentially, a WBC title eliminator and on paper it looked like a brilliant match up. February 20th 1985- Alexandra Palace, Wood Green, London, United Kingdom Sot Chitalada (7-1, 5) Vs Charlie Magri (29-3, 22) We don't see many Asian fighters travelling to the UK to defend titles, it's certainly not the norm. Though saying that Sot Chitalada was not the normal Asian fighter he was a man who in his 5th bout went to South Korea and gave the great Jung-Koo Chang hell and less than a year later went to the UK to defend the WBC Flyweight title against former champion Charlie Magri. So unique was Sot that in a 31 fight career he defended world titles in Kuwait, Japan, South Korea and Jamaica, as well as the UK. In regards to this particular fight it was Sot's first defence and came just 4 months after he had narrowly out pointed Gabriel Bernal for the title. February 22nd 1987- Indoor Gymnasium, Incheon, South Korea Hi-Sup Shin (37-2-1, 22) Vs Dodie Boy Penalosa (19-1-1, 8) Through the 1980's the Korean boxing scene was one of the most exciting as it gave us not only a huge selection of good fighters but also a lot of action fights and fights that seemed able to come alive at a moments notice. One such fight saw the then IBF Flyweight champion Hi-Sup Shin battle against Filipino Dodie Boy Penalosa, a former IBF Light Flyweight champion. We have to say that this one starts slowly but erupts before the ending as the pace suddenly picks up. February 20th 2015- Ban Kuansamakki School, Kiensa, Surat Thani, Thailand Fahlan Sakkreerin Jr (26-3-1, 15) vs Shunji Nagata (10-12-2, 3) Around 14 months ago Thailand's little known Fahlan Sakkreerin Jr shocked the boxing world and stopped former world champion Ryo Miyazaki to announce himself on the world stage. Since then Fahlan has failed to really build on the win despite winning the IBF Asia Light Flyweight title. Fahlan's first defence of that title saw him battling against little known Japanese challenger Shunji Nagata. One such bout saw Atchariya Virotesunobon battle against tough and experienced Indonesian fighter Heri Andriyanto, who was fighting in his 40th recorded professional bout. It was an adventurous debut and a chance to find out whether Atchariya was a fighter to make a note of. [Note Atchariya Virotesunobon is also known as Atchariya Tor Chantaroj] (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) February 10th 2015- Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Shinya Iwabuchi (23-5, 19) Vs Luis Araguayan (11-7, 6) Japanese puncher Shinya Iwabuchi is certainly an exciting fighter and he has been in some genuinely exciting bouts during his under-rated career, sadly however their is a feeling that those hard bouts have began to take something out of him as a fighter. Recently fans saw Iwabuchi in action against Venezuelan Lightweight champion Luis Araguayan in what was supposed to be easy comeback contest for Iwabuchi, who had last been seen being knocked out by Keita Obara. (Video courtesy of suzufeel) August 25th 2015- Ariake Colosseum, Tokyo, Japan Ryota Murata (0-0) Vs Akio Shibata (21-7-1, 9) In boxing it can help to make a statement on your debut. One man who certainly did that was Ryota Murata who began his professional career by fighting against OPBF Middleweight champion Akio Shibata. On paper it was one of the riskiest debuts in history and put the Japanese Olympic gold medal winner under a lot of pressure in what a major day for television channel Fuji TV, who also aired Naoya Inoue's Japanese title bout with Ryoichi Taguchi on the same broadcast December 31st 2012- Ota-City General Gymnasium, Tokyo, Japan Tepparith Kokietgym (21-2, 13) Vs Kohei Kono (27-7, 10) Japan's New Year Eve shows have become a staple of the boxing calendar in recent years and typically we see two competing shows. One of those has been an Ioka show featuring Kazuto Ioka and Ryo Miyazaki whilst the other has been a Watanabe show featuring Takashi Uchiyama and Kohei Kono. To 2012 Kono got his shot at the then WBA Super Flyweight champion Tepparith Kokietgym in what was a make or break fight for Kono against a man who was in sensational form and was 3-0 (1) in world title fights in Japan with notable wins over Daiki Kameda, Tomonobu Shimizu and Nabuo Nashiro. February 14th 2015- 22 May Sports Stadium, Sanaa, Yemen Hani Ansi (17-0-1, 15) Vs Omar Awdan (11-2, 5) The Yemeni boxing scene is one of the most bizarre though it's also an oddly colourful one with several "characters". The most notable of those characters is of course Ali Raymi though his future opponent Hani Ansi isn't far behind on the colourfulness. Ansi recently fought a stay busy with Omar Awdan contest ahead of his clash with Raymi, not set for March. (Video courtesy of Yemen Boxing Federation) |
