There are lots of fighters that go on too long and sadly suffer unnecessary damage to their brain and bodies. We've seen a really notable example in Japan with Joichiro Tatsuyoshi who is clearly showing signs of his long ring career. Thankfully though some fighters get the chance to go out with faculties in tact and we really hope Hozumi Hasegawa will be one such fighter, especially given the fact that Tatsuyoshi was one of his boxing inspirations. The last time we saw Hasegawa in the ring was his failed attempt to claim the IBF Super Bantamweight title as he took on hard nosed Spaniard Kiko Martinez. At times Hasegawa showed off the old magic that made him one of the most popular Japanese fighters of his era, the insane hand speed, the warriors mentality and the all action mindset. Sadly he also showed his age and the effects of a career that has seen him thrilling fans for years. We know Hasegawa will make an announcement on his future shortly though hopefully he'll hang them up with the last memory of his boxing career not being the loss but the love of the fans who cheered him out of the ring and back to the dressing room in the manner befitting of a truly loved fighter.
