April 29th 2016-Chungeui Temple, Yesan Gun, South Korea Su Yun Hong (13-1-1, 7) Vs Jujeath Nagaowa (13-16-1, 8) Earlier this year Korean fans saw former world champion Su Yun Hong [홍서연] face off against Filipino veteran Jujeath Nagaowa. December 27th 2015-Jinju Gymnasium, Jinju, South Korea Su Yun Hong (12-1-1, 6) Vs Jian Li Liu (0-0-1) Late last year Korean fans had the chance to see former WBO female Minimumweight champion Su Yun Hong [홍서연] face off against Chinese fighter Jian Li Lie. *Lie listed as being 6-0-1 (3) on the onscreen graphic. Some fighters are like shooting stars and their impact on the sport, whilst large is very short lived. That is certainly the case for Japan's Mako Yamada who looked tremendous in her career defining fight against South Korean Su Yun Hong, though sadly retired whilst still a teenage rather than defending her title. The Japanese fighter, who only fought a handful of professional boxing bouts, looked like she could be the next great female fighter from Japan. The next Momo Koseki or Naoko Fujioka. Instead she became one of female boxing's greatest "What if's...?" There is hope that one day she will return to the boxing ring though for now it's a case of her enjoying life as a young woman. As for Hong she has fought once, a technical draw with compatriot Dan Bi Kim, though she is set for her next fight later this year. |
