Today WBC Bantamweight champion Shinsuke Yamanaka is one of the real stars of Japanese boxing right now and yet to many international fans he seemed to come out of nowhere with his win over Cristian Esquivel and then Vic Darchinyan. Before those wins however Yamanaka had been making his name on the Japanese domestic scene with numerous stoppage wins. One of those those against Ryuichi Funai. Funai came into the bout as a fighter with solid himself of one day becoming a national contender though became a victim of the quickly improving Yamanaka who's powerful left hand was starting to get real attention, in fact it seemed to get Funai's attention on a regular basis. Late on the bout did get very scrappy though it showed that Yamanaka could grit it out if he needed to. Since this bout Yamanaka has since gone on to claim a Japanese and WBC world title whilst Funai he has since gone on to fight in an OPBF title fight with a losing effort against Rolly Lunas in 2012.
