January 25th 1992-Inchon Indoor Gymnasium, Incheon, South Korea Young Kyun Park (20-1-1, 11) vs Seiji Asakawa (19-2-1, 14) One of the forgotten greats of Korean boxing was "Bulldozer" Young Kyun Park [박영균], who held the WBA Featherweight title in the 1990's. March 12th 1990-Tokyo, Japan Seiji Asakawa (14-1-1, 10) vs Kengo Fukuda (16-2-2, 11) Less than a year after Seiji Asakawa [浅川誠二] successfully defended the Japanese Super Featherweight title against Kengo Fukuda [福田 健吾] the two men would clash again in a much anticipated rematch. June 17th 1989-Tokyo, Japan Seiji Asakawa (11-1-1, 8) vs Kengo Fukuda (15-1-1, 10) I The exciting, and sadly quite tragic, Seiji Asakawa [浅川誠二] won the Japanese Featherweight title in February 1989. In his first defense he took on the hugely popular Kengo Fukuda [福田 健吾], in the first of two bouts between the men. June 9th 1990-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Seiji Asakawa (15-1-1, 11) vs Ryutaro Ueda (15-4-1, 8) In the summer of 1990 Japanese Featherweight champion Seiji Asakawa [浅川誠二] took on Ryutaro Ueda [植田龍太郎] November 16th 1990-Kobe, Hyogo, Japan Seiji Asakawa (16-1-1, 12) vs Toshikazu Sono (5-4, 1) In late 1990 Japanese fans were watching excitedly as Seiji Asakawa [淺川誠二] seemed on his way to big things. In November he fought in what was supposed to be a tune for the then Japanese Featherweight champion. In the opposite corner to Asakawa was the light punching Toshikazu Sono [次王者園寿和]. June 25th 1991-Tokyo, Japan Koji Matsumoto (8-1-1, 3) vs Seiji Asakawa (17-2-1, 13) In the summer of 1991 Koji Matsumoto [松本好二] challenged Japanese Featherweight champion Seiji Asakawa [浅川誠二], in a bout between two men who would later go on to mix it at world level. October 3rd 1989-Kobe, Hyogo, Japan Seiji Asakawa (12-1-1, 9) vs Lancer Nakamura (12-7-1, 1) In his second defense of the Japanese Featherweight title Seiji Asakawa [浅川誠二] took on Lancer Nakamura [ランサー中村]. December 18th 1989-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Seiji Asakawa (13-1-1, 10) vs Tiger Michigami (21-9-1, 16) In his third defense of the Japanese Featherweight title Seiji Asakawa [浅川誠二] took on Tiger Michigami [タイガー道上], a week before Christmas in 1989. That career ended in 1994 following a world title bout against the then WBA Featherweight champion Eloy Rojas. |
