February 19th 1974-Tokyo, Japan Ryu Sorimachi (44-7-2, 27) vs Man Sung Choi (0-0) In 1974 Japan's Ryu Sorimachi [龍 反町], the then OPBF Welterweight champion, took on Korea challenger Man Sung Choi [崔万成], in what is his first bout recorded on the Boxrec database. Despite the huge gulf in recorded experience the Korean fighter put in a much better performance than most would have guessed against a Japanese fighter who fought for the WBC and WBA Light Middleweight totles less than a year earlier, losing a majority decision to Koichi Wajima. *Note - Choi's record is known to be incomplete, on screen graphic lists him as being 14-10 (11)
