May 6th 2006-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Eagle Den Junlaphan (15-1, 6) vs Rodel Mayol (22-0, 17) Although now a bit of a forgotten fighter Eagle Den Junlaphan was a fantastic little man who scored a number of very good wins during his short but meaningful professional boxing career, which saw him twice reign as the WBC Minimumweight champion. In 2006 he clashed with future WBC Light Flyweight champion Rodel Mayol from the Philippines. September 12th 2009-Coliseo Jose Miguel Agrelot, Hato Rey, Puerto Rico Rodel Mayol (25-3-1, 19) vs Ivan Calderon (32-0-1, 6) II Just 3 months after Filipino fighter Rodel Mayol and Puerto Rican boxing genius Ivan Calderon fought to a technical draw the two men faced off again, with Mayol again looking to try and claim the WBO Light Flyweight title that Calderon held. June 13th 2009-Madison Square Garden, New York, New York, USA Rodel Mayol (25-3, 19) vs Ivan Calderon (32-0, 6) I In 2009 Filipino fighter Rodel Mayol travelled to New York to challenge WBO Light Flyweight champion Ivan Calderon in the first of two bouts between the two men. February 27th 2010-Coliseo Olimpico de la UG, Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico Rodel Mayol (26-4-1, 20) vs Omar Nino Romero (28-3-1, 11) I It's funny when we look back and notice that 2010 was a year full of controversies. One of the biggest came in a WBC Light Flyweight title bout between Filipino Rodel Mayol, the defending champion, and Omar Nino Romero. When we talk about controversy in boxing we usually mean poor judging though when it comes to Filipino fighter Rodel Mayol we are often talking about his actions and at one point he was the most controversial men in boxing. His bouts often seemed to end in odd fashion and have some sort of strange talking point. One of the most controversial Mayol bouts saw him fighting Edgar Sosa for the WBC Light Flyweight title and the bout was horribly marred by a devastating clash of heads on round 2 that left Sosa looking like damaged goods until Mayol eventually saw off the Mexican later in he same round. Rather funnily Mayol's follow up bout was just as controversial as he was knocked out by Omar Nino Romero in a bout that resulted in a technical after Romero connected with a low blow followed by a devastating left hook.
