December 31st 2012-Bodymaker Colosseum, Osaka, Osaka, Japan Ryo Miyazaki (17-0-3, 10) Vs Pornsawan Porpramook (27-4-1, 17) Recently we uploaded the TV version of the brilliant WBA Minimumweight title between Ryo Miyazaki [宮崎 亮] and Pornsawan Porpramook [พรสวรรค์ ป.ประมุข], we also stumbled on this "fan cam" version for those interested in watching the bout in a different way. Note-For those wanting the TV version that's available here. December 31st 2012-Bodymaker Colosseum, Osaka, Osaka, Japan Ryo Miyazaki (17-0-3, 10) Vs Pornsawan Porpramook (27-4-1, 17) One of the forgotten modern classics was the all out war for the WBA Minimumweight title between Ryo Miyazaki [宮崎 亮] and Pornsawan Porpramook [พรสวรรค์ ป.ประมุข] from the very end of 2012. The bout may not have been the very best bout to feature either man, but it was a brilliant contest all the same that was competitive and exciting. July 30th 2011- Indosiar Studio, Jakarta, Indonesia Muhammad Rachman (63-10-5, 33) Vs Pornsawan Porpramook (22-3-1, 16) In April 2011 Muhammad Rachman became the oldest Minimumweight world champion in history as he shocked Kwanthai Sithmorseng to claim the WBA title aged 39. In his first defence of that title Rachman battled against another Thai, the always exciting Pornsawan Porpramook in what turned out to be a genuinely riveting contest that helped put Pornsawan on the boxing map and proved that Rachman was still among the top in the Minimumweight division. We all know that the Minimumweight division is one of the sports most over-looked divisions despite many talented fighters passing through it, especially in recent years. The problem for the division is typically the fact fighters can't stay there for the length of a career. After all 105lbs is next to nothing for a fighter who matures from a young professional to a fully grown man. The issue of growing out of the division is certainly something that effected Oleydong Sithsamerchai who turned professional in 2002 at 105lbs and remained in the division until 2011 when he suffered his first, and so far only, loss, a stoppage to Kazuto Ioka. For more than 3 years he held the WBC world title and defended it successfully 6 time before the loss to Ioka. The last of those successful defences came in his second meeting with Pornsawan Porpramook, a future WBA world champion. At times early on Oleydong looked sensational though at other times it was clear he was struggling with the 105lb limit. He lacked the power to back up Porpramook, at times he lacked the bounce in his step to escape his fellow Thai and he fought very much like a man who knew he wasn't his usual self and one who would later suffer what appeared to be a leg injury. We won't ruin much more of the fight though we would advise you keep a close eye on the very interesting 6th round, as well as the fighters reactions at the end of the bout, which included Porpramook doing push ups in the ring as if to suggest he found the bout easy. One of the biggest shocks of 2014 came when a little known Filipino called Rey Loreto iced South African Nkosinathi Joyi in 3 rounds. For many that bout is still the upset of the year. We did however have an inkling that upset was possible having seen Rey Loreto in action just a few months earlier when he defeated Thailand's Pornsawan Porpramook and achieved one of the rarest feats in boxing, he won a bout as a visiting fighter in Thailand! Heading into this bout Loreto was seen as an easy touch for Pornsawan. The Filipino had a poor record of 16 wins and 13 losses from 29 fights though what was over-looked was the fact that he was a hungry fighter who was maturing and becoming a real handful, just as Pornsawan, a former world champion, found out. The only shameful thing about this bout was the judging which some how made out the bout was close and Loreto only ended up taking a majority technical decision in bout that he really dominated and genuinely impressed in. Although Loreto has only fought once since this contest, the Joyi fight, we are really looking forward to seeing him again and hopefully he'll fight sooner rather than later as he the potential to be a very good fighter.
