Riku Kano (7-1-1, 4) Vs Pigmy Kokietgym (58-8-2, 23) The Japanese fight scene right now is packed with exciting young fighters all breaking through the ranks. One of those fighters is Riku Kano, an 18 year old tipped for the top. This past weekend Kano took on former world title challenger Pigmy Kokietgym, a vastly experienced Thai who had twice fought for world titles. November 6th 2015- Singkorn Border Pass Prachuap Khiri Khan, Thailand Pigmy Kokietgym (57-8-2, 23) v Madit Sada (9-22-1, 3) Former 2-time world title challenger Pigmy Kokietgym was recently in a stay busy fight as he took on Madit Sada, in a bout that was supposed to help Pigmy prepare to face Riku Kano in December. August 28th 2015-Bangkok, Thailand Pigmy Kokietgym (57-7-2, 23) v Jaysever Abcede (9-3, 5) Regularly when a fighter travels to Thailand they are doing so for a payment to lose against a local fighter. In recent times however we've been seeing fighters travel with then intention of upsetting the applecart, as seen recently when Jestoni Autida over-came Ratchasak KKP. This week we saw another Filipino with the intention of being more than just the "deisignated loser". This time it was Jaysever Abcede who traveled to face former world title challenger Pigmy Kokietgym, a man who had been all but promised another world title shot later this year. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) June 12th 2015-Thailand Pigmy Kokietgym (56-7-2, 22) vs Rofiq Aditya (2-1-1, 2) Thailand's experienced Pigmy Kokietgym may have come up short in a couple of world title fights but he's not given up on trying to get another shot at a belt. Recently he was in action for the 66th time as he took on Indonesian novice Rofiq Aditaya. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) March 28th 2015- Thailand Pigmy Kokietgym (55-7-2, 22) Vs Heri Amol (35-22-4, 14) Thai veteran Pigmy Kokietgym came up short last year when he challenged WBA Minimumweight champion Hekkie Budler, since then he has fought 4 times with the most recent of those bouts coming against fellow veteran Heri Amol, of Indonesia. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) The Thai fight scene seems to see a lot of rematches and faces that simple won't go away. One of those face is that of Indonesian journeyman Samuel Tehuayo who has done the Thai circuit lot recently with 7 fights this year in Thailand. The most of those was his second bout of the year against former world title challenger Pigmy Kokietgym. The Indonesian fighter does what he typically does and put up the sort of fight that sees him surviving the rounds and making some of them close but never really looking like he's trying to actually win. It's frustrating but it does get the home fighter some rounds. For someone like Pigmy however this was a relatively pointless exercise and Pigmy doesn't really need these type of rounds, though we do suspect the Thai is coming to the end of his long career and he did look very tired at times here.
