May 8th 1994-Ratchaburi, Thailand Pichit Sithbanprachan (20-0, 16) vs Jose Luis Zepeda (23-11-2, 19) In 1994 Thai fans saw Pichit Sithbanprachan make the final defense of the IBF Flyweight title as he faced Mexican puncher Jose Luis Zepeda. On paper the bout was a mismatch with the unbeaten champion facing a man who had lost around 30% of his bouts, Zepeda however hadn't read the script and came to win, as he had in all his previous bouts. Incidentally whilst Zepeda's record was less than stellar he had mixed with very good competition prior to this bout, including Humberto Gonzalez, Ricardo Lopez, German Torres and the then unbeaten Scotty Olson, who he beat in bout previous to this one.

October 3rd 1993-Provincial Stadium, Chaiyaphum, Thailand Pichit Sithbanprachan (18-0, 15) v Miguel Martinez (25-5-1, 21) Thailand's Pichit Sithbanprachan didn't reign as a world champion for long but his IBF Flyweight was certainly an entertaining reign. One of the toughest bouts Pichit had saw him take on Mexican puncher Miguel Martinez, who went on to challenge two other world champions after this bout, sadly for Martinez this bout was the start of the end for him with the Mexican going on to lose more than he won following this one. July 11th 1993-Provincial Stadium, Nakhon Sawan, Thailand Pichit Sithbanprachan (16-0, 13) Vs Kyung Yung Lee (20-2, 8) In 1992 Thailand's Pichit Sithbanprachan claimed the IBF Flyweight title. In his second defense he took on former IBF Minimumweight champion Kyung Yung Lee, whose only previous losses were to Hiroki Ioka and Ricardo Lopez. In both of those previous losses the Korean had gone very late into the bout before being stopped. (Note-Fight starts at 9:20 following some highlights of the Thai) November 29th 1992-Imperial World Center, Samut Prakan, Thailand Pichit Sithbanprachan (13-0, 11) vs Rodolfo Blanco (27-7-1, 18) In recent year's we've seen several fighters retire as unbeaten world champions, fighters like Joe Calzaghe, Floyd Mayweather Jr and Sven Ottke. Prior to those 3 the feat was achieved by the little known Pichit Sithbanprachan, who claimed his title in late 1992 when he beat the highly regarded Rodolfo Blanco. (Thanks to FleaBOXING) |
