November 15th 2003-Alamodome, San Antonio, Texas, USA Manny Pacquiao (37-2-1, 28) vs Marco Antonio Barrera (57-3, 40) I In 2003 Manny Pacquiao made the full time leap up from Super Bantamweight to Featherweight. After dipping his toes at the weight earlier in the year, against Serikzhan Yeshmagambetov, he committed to the weight when he took on Mexican icon Marco Antonio Barrera in November.

Back in 2003 Manny Pacquiao was still a man who was making his name in the sport. He had fought 4 bouts in the US though still had questions over his head regarding just how good he actually was. Those questions were, for the most part, answered in his first bout with Mexican great Marco Antonio Barrera, a bout that saw Pacquiao claim the Ring Magazine Featherweight and really impress stopping Barrera in the 11th round after putting on a relatively dominant performance. For those who haven't seen this bout it's well worth watching even if it is just to compare the Pacquiao of today to the Pacquiao of the early 00's when the "Pacman" was fighting at a significantly lower weight to what he's now competing at. |
