October 30th 2015-Sawan Vegas Hotel Suwannakhet, Laos Kongthara KKP (10-0, 8) v Boido Simanjuntak (18-31-1, 7) This past Friday saw one of our favourite prospects in action as Kongthara KKP took to the ring in Laos. The talented Kongthara faced off against Indonesian journeyman Boido Simanjuntak in what was really just a stay busy fight for Kongthara, who is continuing to hone his skills. October 9th 2015-Saigon Stadium, Mae Mor Lampang, Thailand Kongthara KKP (9-0, 7) v Ricky Morales (4-3-1) Of all the Thai prospects out there arguably the most impressive so far is Kongthara KKP, who really appears to have all the tools of a man going places. Recently he took on Ricky Morales, who appeared completely out of his depth. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) September 4th 2015-Saimai District, Bangkok, Thailand Kongthara KKP (8-0, 6) Vs Rasmanudin (19-10-3, 10) When it comes to getting excited about fighters in Thailand we can often feel they are better than they really are. One man we do rate highly is Kongthara KKP, or Kongthara Kokietgym as he was announced here. Kongthara came to our attention last year when he beat Shingo Kawamura in Japan and since then we have been following him carefully. Recently he took on Indonesian veteran Rasmanudin in what looked like a decent test on paper, though Rasmanudin isn't the fighter he once was. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) August 21st 2015-Sawan Vegas Hotel Suwannakhet, Laos Kongthara KKP (7-0, 5) Vs Mathias Bernua (0-0) Every so often a Thai prospect catches our eye and leaves us with a sense of excitement. One such fighter was Kongthara KKP. Recently Kongthara faced Mathias Bernua, a genuine unknown. Whilst the fight wasn't a great contest it was another chance to see the exciting Thai hopeful in action. (Video courtesy of TKO.in.th) January 16th 2015- Sawan Vegas Hotel, Suwannakhet, Laos Kongthara KKP (6-0, 5) Vs Tan Zheng (0-0) One of our favourite prospects right now is Kongthara KKP who has been matched harder than most in his first 6 bouts. Despite being matched hard to begin with he has required some time to develop and in his most recent bout it was clear he was fighting for rounds as much as anything else as he took on China's Tan Zheng, apparently a debutant. Zheng, to his credit came to fight and was very tough though he always seem to look out classed despite putting up a great effort against the incumbent WBC Asian Boxing Council Silver Super Bantamweight champion. If you've not seen much of Kongthara before we really insist you treat yourself here. (Video courtesy of www.tko.in.th) All too often in boxing, worldwide, we see prospects begin their career by getting a lot of quick stoppages rather than getting real fights and competitive rounds under their belt. For some reason promoters appear to think taking out over-matched foes do more for the development of a fighter than taking on sturdy and reliable opponents who try to win. One man who hasn't been given the "easy" treatment is Kongthara KKP who beat a domestically ranked Japanese foe on the road in his debut earlier this year and recently took on the experienced and tough Nouldy Manakane. The bout saw Kongthara given a genuinely good work out and the sort of contest every promising prospect needs even if it is just to prove they have the ability to do 12 rounds. (Video courtesy of ทีเคโอ มวยโลก) The most disappointing thing about the Thai boxing scene is the amount of mismatches and one of the recent ones saw the promising Kongthara KKP defeat Indonesian visitor Budi Viyono.
