April 23rd 2016- Osaka, Japan Kenichi Yamaguchi (19-3-2, 5) Vs Kentaro Kobayashi (8-0-1, 2)* Earlier this year Japanese fans in Osaka had the chance to see a peculiar event headlined by a WBF title bout between Kenichi Yamaguchi and Kentaro Kobayashi. On the face of it the bout looks pretty normal however it was never sanctioned by the JBC and was essentially an unsanctioned bout between the two Japanese fighters. *Record taken from WBF's website

July 23rd 2011- Centro de Usos Multiples, Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico Kenichi Yamaguchi (17-1-2-1, 4) Vs Orlando Salido (35-11-2-1, 23) In April 20111 Orlando Salido scored one of his many upsets as he over-came the previously unbeaten Juan Manuel Lopez to claim the WBO Featherweight title. Just a few months later Salido returned to the ring to take on Japanese challenger Kenichi Yamaguchi who was attempting to claim the biggest win of his career. July 9th 2009- Luna Park, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Kenichi Yamaguchi (15-1-2, 4) Vs Billy Dib (22-1, 11) At it's heart boxing is a sport that sees two participants fighting with aim being to win the fight. It is however fought within the realms of rules with a referee their to enforce the rules. Sadly however not all fights are kept with in the rules and one such bout was the infamous brawl between Kenichi Yamaguchi and Billy Dib. The fight was fought more like a street fight with the charismatic Yamaguchi bull rushing Dib at the opening bell and looking more like a back-street brawler than a boxer. Whilst Yamaguchi was certainly a nightmare and peculiar boxer Dib wasn't the cleanest fighter himself. We won't pretend this was a thriller but was certainly a peculiar bout that saw a bit of everything, other than clean boxing and the ending was certainly not what we want to see in the ring. |
