September 29th 2017-Heyuan Royal Garden Hotel, Beijing, China Ronnie Baldonado (9-0-1, 6) Vs Iwan Zoda (14-2-1, 13) Earlier today Chinese fans saw Filipino fight Ronne Baldonado risk his unbeaten record against touted Indonesian Iwan Zoda. April 2nd 2016-Pangsuma Stadium, Pontianak, Indonesia Iwan Zoda (8-1, 7) vs Szilveszter Kanalas (8-0, 6) This past weekend fans in Indonesia saw rising star Iwan Zoda battle the unbeaten Szilveszter Kanalas. December 31st 2015-PCC, Pontianak, Indonesia Iwan Zoda (7-1, 6) Vs Phupha Por Nobnom (11-9-1, 10) It's fair to say that Indonesian boxing is lacking a real star, but it appears to have a diamond in the rough in the form of the exciting Iwan Zoda. At the end of last year Zoda was in action as he took on the heavy handed Phupha Por Nobnom, in what was Zoda's first bout following his sensational revenge victory over Petchchorhae Kokietgym. At the time Zoda was a real novice, fighting for just the second time as a professional, whilst Petchchorhae was fighting for the 8th time. Today, some 11 months after their first meeting, they fought for the second time. (Video thanks to the brilliant tko.in.th) October 3rd 2014- Ban Rai Temple, Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand Petchchorhae Kokietgym (7-0, 5) Vs Iwan Zoda (1-0) A lot of the time in Thailand we see local fighters taking on novices from around Asia as they look to develop their records and skills against relative weak opponents, often from Indonesia, China and the Philippines. Sometimes however the visiting fighter can surprise us and show that whilst he is inexperienced there is something about them worth making a note of. One such fighter who caught our eye when we finally got around to see him was Indonesian teenager Iwan Zoda who took on Petchchorhae Kokietgym in a bout where he was supposed to just make up the numbers but actually did a lot more than just that. This is one of those rare bouts where both guys actually came out looking better despite the result of the contest. (Video courtesy of tko.in.th) |
