November 2nd 2015-Korakuen Hall Tokyo, Japan Kentaro Masuda (22-7, 11) Vs Hideo Sakamoto (16-1-3, 5) The Japanese Bantamweight scene is certainly one of the most exciting and interesting. At the top is obviously Shinsuke Yamanaka whilst the chasing pack includes the likes of Shohei Omori and Ryo Matsumoto, two stars of the future. Yesterday saw another of the domestic fighters in action as former champion Kentaro Masuda took on highly rated contender Hideo Sakamoto in a Japanese title eliminator. (Video courtesy of gentidori) March 15th 2015- Kyuden Gym, Fukuoka, Fukuoka, Japan Hideo Sakamoto (15-1-2, 5) Vs Ryoichi Tamura (3-1-1, 1) Last year we saw Hideo Sakamoto come to our attention with an upset win against the then world ranked Hiroki Shiino. In his first bout following that one Sakamoto took on the talented but inexperienced Ryoichi Tamura, who was best known for stopping Kenji Kubo late last year. On paper this looked like a mismatch though for fans who had follow the fighters in question it looked very good match making. (Video courtesy of aka0113) In 2013 Hiroki Shiino was the OPBF Bantamweight champion and was a touted puncher set to defend his belt against fellow hard hitting Japanese Bantamweight Ryosuke Iwasa. It seemed that the winner of Iwasa/Shiino fight was heading towards big things whilst the loser would have plenty of time to rebuild. After losing that fight Shiino was expected to bounce back and end 2014 on the verge of another OPBF title fight. In his way was the little known Hideo Sakamoto, a relative unknown on the Japanese domestic scene. We won't ruin the result of this one but this is the type of match up that we again love about the Japanese scene where fighters are made to fight and win, lose or draw there are so few easy bouts out the domestic scene. For those wanting a highlight moment we suggest you pay attention to 10:50. (Video courtesy of gentidori) |
