March 28th 2015-22 May Stadium, Sana'a Yemen Hani Ansi (21-0, 19) Vs Taha Kawkabani (7-3, 2) The Yemeni boxing scene is certainly a strange one and that was seen recently in a fight between Hani Ansi and Taha Kawkabani. It was a fight that would have done little to enhance the belief that the Yemeni boxing scene is "on the level" though it did give us another chance to see the peculiar Ansi in action. *Boxrec list Ansi as 18-0-1 (16) and Kawkabani as 4-3 (1) entering this bout. We have used records provided by the Yemeni Boxing Federation. (Video courtesy of Yemen Boxing Federation)

February 14th 2015- 22 May Sports Stadium, Sanaa, Yemen Hani Ansi (17-0-1, 15) Vs Omar Awdan (11-2, 5) The Yemeni boxing scene is one of the most bizarre though it's also an oddly colourful one with several "characters". The most notable of those characters is of course Ali Raymi though his future opponent Hani Ansi isn't far behind on the colourfulness. Ansi recently fought a stay busy with Omar Awdan contest ahead of his clash with Raymi, not set for March. (Video courtesy of Yemen Boxing Federation) Whilst Ali Raymi is certainly the most notable Yemeni fighter we're really finding ourselves more interest in his compatriot Hani Ansi who is a very interesting but peculiar fighter who also boasts an unbeaten record and appears to have a record of a puncher. Stylistically however he doesn't look like a banger instead of looks like the crown prince of Yemeni boxing, as seen again here in his bout against Kenyan fighter Hisham Tumbaki. (Video courtesy of Yemen Boxing) Earlier this year we fell in love with Yemen's Hani Ansi who, despite looking awful, was fun to watch with a very unique and bizarre style. The first time we saw him he fought against Naser Awadh and looked like a "character" to say the least. Ansi's unbeaten run continued this past weekend as he took on former Ali Raymi victim Yaser Dalbant and scored a somewhat embarrassing stoppage. For those who haven't seen Raymi's fight with Dalbant we have the video of that one here. (Video courtesy of Yemen Boxing) When you think of Yemen and boxing there are two names that jump out at you. The infamous Ali Raymi and the eccentric "Prince" Naseem Hamed. It appears that Yemen has has another boxer that may be worth making a note of, and one that is clearly inspired by Hamed. That is is Hani Ansi who showed off some Hamed-like moves in his recent victory over compatriot Naser Awadh. We don't know much about the fight though the clip is entertaining for the 31 seconds. We need to apologise for not having the full fight, though we clearly have the highlight of the bout and enough to get an idea of what Ansi is like in the ring. Just a shame Awadh was so out classed. |
