October 24th 2008-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Chris John (41-0-1, 22) vs Hiroyuki Enoki (27-0-2, 19) In 2008 Indonesian great Chris John travelled to Japan to defend the WBA Featherweight title against unbeaten Japanese challenger Hiroyuki Enoki [榎 洋之]. Although this bout isn't too well remembered it is a bit of a hidden gem, with a lot of nice exchanges as Enoki's pressure went up against the often under-rated boxing skills of John. Both men took punishment.

It's fair to say that Chris John was never known for his wars. He was an excellent fighter though, barring one or two examples, he fought as a boxer as opposed to a brawler. One of those exceptions was his fantastic bout with Japanese fighter Hiroyuki Enoki, a bout that deserved to be called a "war" with both men throwing serious leather at the other and both having the scars of war at the end of the bout. It truly was a great bout that combined plenty of skills, lots of action and real heart from both men. If you've not seen this one before we really recommend you give it a watch it a watch, it may help change your view on Chris John who really could go to war when he needed to. |
