Unbeaten records are funny. They are just numbers and at the end of the day they actually tell us very, very little about the fighter. A fighter can be 30-0 and little more than an untested hype with limited skills and clever match making or they can be 2-1 and a world champion with such exceptional talent that their promoter has allowed them to be rushed to the top. One battle between unbeaten from just a few years ago saw one fighter, Chris John, sporting a spectacular record of 47-0-2 (22) whilst his opponent, Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo, was a similarly impressive 44-0 (27). Between them the men had gone 93 fights unbeaten but at the end of the bout one man was clearly the better fighter and proved that he was more talented than his foe. We won't say much more about this bout but we will add that in less than 2 weeks Chonlatarn, now 52-1 (33), will be battling a 2-1 (1) world champion in what looks like a very tough bout for the Thai despite his clear edge in professional experience.
