February 10th 1990-Seongnam Gymnasium, Seongnam, South Korea Bong Jun Kim (20-5-3, 9) vs Petchthai Chuvatana (7-0, 5) In early 1990 Bong Jun Kim [김봉준] , the then WBA Minimumweight champion, looked to make his third defense, as he took on unbeaten Thai puncher Petchthai Chuvatana February 2nd 1991-Sajik Gymnasium, Busan, South Korea Hi Yong Choi (9-0, 5) v Bong Jun Kim (23-5-3, 10) I In early 1991 Korean fans saw a rare All Korean world title bout, as Hi Yong Choi [최희용] challenged the then WBA Minimumweight champion Bong Jun Kim [김봉준]. The two would rematch later the same year. February 10th 1990-Sungnam Gymnasium, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea Bong Jun Kim (20-5-3, 9) vs Petchthai Chuvatana (7-0, 5) In early 1990 WBA Minimumweight champion Bong Jun Kim took on Thai challenger Petchthai Chuvatana. March 20th 1986- Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Hideyuki Ohashi (4-0, 3) vs Bong Jun Kim (8-3-2, 2) Sometimes we come across footage we can't believe exists and amazingly we've come across some fan-cam footage of the 1986 bout between Hideyuki Ohashi [大橋秀行] and Bong Jun Kim [김봉준]. The footage, and similar footage, leaves us wondering what other hidden classics are out there on other tape in someones loft. Of course this is bout is known for other reasons, but we won't spoil those reasons. November 14th 1994- Tokyo, Japan Bong Jun Kim (24-9-3, 10) Vs Takashi Oba (13-1, 11) In 1994 Japanese fans had the chance to see hard hitting prospect Takashi Oba face off against faded former world champion Bong Jun Kim, who had lost 4 of his previous 5. July 17th 1993-Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Bong Jun Kim (23-8-2, 10) Vs Melchor Cob Castro (38-4-4, 17) Korean fighter Bong Jun Kim had an under-rated career in the 1990's when he had a solid run as the WBA Minimumweight champion. Sadly his career was almost all in the East though he did make an outing in the US in 1993 when he faced Mexican Melchor Cob Castro. |
