Akira Yaegashi (18-3, 9) vs Edgar Sosa (49-7, 29) Japanese warrior Akira Yaegashi [八重樫 東] has rarely been in a bad fighter, surprisingly however his contest with Edgar Sosa did fail to give us the fire works we all expected, yet was still an engaging bout from start to finish. March 26th 2005-Bunka Gym, Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan Akira Yaegashi (0-0) Vs Tomoyoshi Nakayama (8-8-1, 1) Today it's fair to say most hardcore fans are fans of the always fun Akira Yaegashi [八重樫東] back in March 2005 however he was a relative unknown outside of the hardcore Japanese amateur fight fans, where he ran up a 56-14 (15) record. Here is his professional debut against Tomoyoshi Nakayama [中山智善], and like most amateur standouts in Japan he wasn't put in with an opponent coming to fall over, in fact coming in to this one Nakayama had never been stopped. December 29th 2015-Ariake Colosseum, Tokyo, Japan Akira Yaegashi (22-5, 12) Vs Javier Mendoza (24-2-1, 19) When we looked back over 2015 it was easy to decide on our comeback fighter of the year, Akira Yaegashi. He won that honour of the back of this stirring performance against heavy handed Mexican Javier Mendoza in a bout for the IBF Light Flyweight title. December 29th 2015-Ariake Colosseum, Tokyo, Japan Akira Yaegashi (22-5, 12) Vs Javier Mendoza (24-2-1, 19) Earlier this week we had the chance to see a thriller as Akira Yaegashi challenged Javier Mendoza for the IBF Light Flyweight title. At the moment we've not come across he TV version, shown by Fuji TV, but we have stumbled on this brilliant fan-cam footage courtesy of youtube user 高 嶋 史 郎. We hope we'll get the TV version soon, but must admit that this footage is a treat it's self. August 20th 2015-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Akira Yaegashi (21-5, 11) Vs Said M Said (10-5-1, 4)* Japan's Akira Yaegashi is one of the most popular fighters in Japan following his 2-world title reigns and numerous exciting bouts. After suffering back-to-back stoppage losses to world class fighters Yaegashi dropped down a level and took on Thai foe Songseanglek Phosuwangym, a Thai who had been stopped in 2 previous visits to Japan. (Note-Boxrec list Sonseanglek as 1-11 entering this bout though his record is seen as being highly incomplete) |
