September 27th 2006- Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Akinori Watanabe (9-0, 8) Vs Chan-Jong Kim (12-7-1, 2) Japan's Akinori Watanabe may not be the best fighter out there but there are few who are more entertaining to watch than the destructive Japanese fighter. In his 10th bout Watanabe faced Korean fighter Chan-Jong Kim in what was a short but fun fight that saw both men set out throwing bombs from the first bell. For fight fans who just want to see a fight, this should be right down your alley.

December 6th 2007- Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan Tadashi Yuba (31-4-2, 22) Vs Akinori Watanabe (16-0, 15) When punchers collide anything can happen and that was seen when the then Japanese Welterweight champion Tadashi Yuba defended his belt against fellow puncher Akinori Watanabe. Don't blink as you will likely miss something in this short and sweet encounter between heavy handed but stoppable fighters. February 23rd 2007-Prefectural Sogo Gym, Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan Akinori Watanabe (11-0, 10) Vs Joko Tunggal (4-9-3, 2) Japan's Akinori Watanabe has always been a really exciting fighter with a lot of defensive issues and a lot of power. Here is one of his early bouts and sees him take on Indonesian fighter Joko Tunggal. Unsurprisingly this one didn't last long. When we talk about fun to watch Japanese fighters we need to accept that, for all his flaws, Akinori Watanabe guarantees excitement, action and knockouts. At the time of writing Watanabe has been featured in 34 bouts and only 4 have gone the distance. Unfortunately for Watanabe he has been stopped in 4 of those 34 bouts. Those losses included an opening round defeat to Tsuyoshi Kamiishi in a bout that was truly an all action brawl from start to end. This isn't pretty but it is really fun action from start to end and well worth a watch if you like your action frantic and exciting. In the years that followed this bout Watanabe would become one of the real forces on the Asian scene claiming Japanese, OPBF and PABA titles whilst Kamiishi would fight just once more, losing that bout to Koshinmaru Saito. |
