December 31st 2019-Ota-City General Gymnasium, Tokyo, Japan Ginjiro Shigeoka (4-0, 3) vs Rey Loreto (25-14, 17) At the end of 2019 WBO Asia Pacific Minimumweight champion Ginjiro Shigeoka [重岡銀次朗], a man who is regarded as one of the next superstars of Japanese boxing, took on former world title challenger Rey Loreto, in what was Shigeoka's first defense of his regional title. July 15th 2017-City Hall Ground Chonburi, Thailand Knockout CP Freshmart (15-0, 7) vs Rey Loreto (23-13, 15) Earlier today Thai fans saw Knockout CP Freshmart [น็อคเอาท์ ซีพีเฟรชมาร์ท] defending his WBA Minimumweight title against mandatory challenger Rey Loreto. August 19th 2016- Thailand Rey Loreto (22-13, 14) Vs Rungrit Sor Viseket (?-?) Earlier today fight fans in Thailand had the chance to see Filipino warrior Rey Loreto, one of the best active fighters with double digit losses, take on Rungrit Sor Viseket in Thailand as he looks to build towards a potential world title fight in the near future. We will never hide our love of Filipino fighter Rey Loreto who has really become one of our favourites thanks to his last few fights which have really, really impressed us. Unfortunately for Loreto he's not always looked as good as he has in recent bouts and against the very talented Paiharob Kokietgym we saw Loreto come up against a much better fighter than himself, at least at time. Going in to the bout Loreto was a 20 year old with a record of 8-8 (4), he was still trying to find himself in boxing and, on paper, he was a can brought over to keep the Thai busy. Paipharob was 13-0 (11) hotly tipped to be a star he was the reigning PABA Minimumweight champion and a major puncher. In this fight his quality, and power, shone through as he connected with a monster left hand that sent Loreto down face first. It's amazing to think how well Loreto has turned his career around since this loss defeating Pornsawan Porpramook in Thailand and the very highly regarded Nkosinathi Joyi in Monaco. As for the Thai he is now on the verges of a world title fight though did find his career on the rocks for a bit. It doesn't seem unrealistic to see both of these men holding world titles in the next few years. (Video courtesy of YeahJustLikeChuckie) When we talk about the biggest wins and the biggest shocks this year one result stands out head and shoulders about the others. The stunning knockout win scored by under-rated Filipino puncher Rey Loreto against former IBF Minimumweight champion Nkosinathi Joyi. The win, at the time, was a huge shock though one we had suggested was a possibility given that Loreto is much better than his record indicates. The fight started slowly with both men trying to figure out what the other had but the pace quickly picked up with both men landing plenty of leather and neither man looking all that worried about the power of their opponents. By the end of the round however it looked like Joyi was starting to take over the bout and establish himself. The second round saw Joyi further establishing himself and it appeared he was ready to show off just how good he was as he began boxing beautifully behind his jab and working the body fantastically. At the end of the round however Loreto tagged Joyi with a series of solid shots. Joyi however was saved by the bell as Loreto looked ready to take him out. At the start of round 3 Joyi was still feeling the effects of the shots that ended the previous round and soon afterwards Lereto managed to finish off his man to secure his second successive victory over a world champion, following his excellent victory over Pornsawan Porpramook some 6 months earlier. Sadly we've not seen Loreto in action since this bout but we're really looking forward to his return to the ring which will hopefully be sooner rather than later. One of the biggest shocks of 2014 came when a little known Filipino called Rey Loreto iced South African Nkosinathi Joyi in 3 rounds. For many that bout is still the upset of the year. We did however have an inkling that upset was possible having seen Rey Loreto in action just a few months earlier when he defeated Thailand's Pornsawan Porpramook and achieved one of the rarest feats in boxing, he won a bout as a visiting fighter in Thailand! Heading into this bout Loreto was seen as an easy touch for Pornsawan. The Filipino had a poor record of 16 wins and 13 losses from 29 fights though what was over-looked was the fact that he was a hungry fighter who was maturing and becoming a real handful, just as Pornsawan, a former world champion, found out. The only shameful thing about this bout was the judging which some how made out the bout was close and Loreto only ended up taking a majority technical decision in bout that he really dominated and genuinely impressed in. Although Loreto has only fought once since this contest, the Joyi fight, we are really looking forward to seeing him again and hopefully he'll fight sooner rather than later as he the potential to be a very good fighter.
