Last week at Korakuen Hall fight fans saw Japanese national champion at 140lbs Daishi Nagata [永田大士] was take on the unbeaten Masahiro Suzuki [鈴木 雅弘]. For Nagata this was his second defense since dethroning Koki Inoue in a major upset in 2020, and for Suzuki this was a massive step up in class, and his first bout at title level.

Back in on Monday Japanese fight fans at Korakuen Hall saw Cristiano Aoqui [アオキ クリスチャーノ] face off with the Daishi Nagata [永田大士], with the men clashing in a Japanese title eliminator, with the winner securing title a bout at the 2020 Champion Carnival.

We like fighters who get matched hard and as a result we like Daishi Nagata who faced the heavy handed Takuya Matsusaka in just his 4th bout.

Daishi Nagata (0-0-1) Vs Jeffrey Arienza (12-2-1, 7)
On his debut Daishi Nagata fought to a draw with Takeshi Inoue, rather than being given an easy bout for fight #2 Nagata was thrown in with the very capable, and much more experienced, Jeffrey Arienza of the Philippines. It was a tough, tough match up on paper and proved to be tough and competitive in the ring.

In Japan many hopeful prospects begin their careers with 6 round bouts rather than the 4 rounders we typically see in the west. Rarely however do we get two good prospects making their debuts against each other. One of those rare cases saw Daishi Nagata battle against Takeshi Inoue in a bout that really was an amazing test for both men and both deserve a lot a credit to both for taking on the other guy
