He then turned his attention to the then recent world title challenger Robinson Castellanos, who was 1 fight removed from a razor thin technical decision loss to WBA "super" champion Jezzrel Corrales. May 5th 2017-DIVS, Ekaterinburg, Russia Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov (9-0, 7) vs Jimmy Paypa (19-3-1, 7) Way back in May 2017 Russian based Tajik prospect Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov [Шавкатджон Рахимов] faced off with Filipino foe Jimmy Paypa, a former OPBF title challenger in an all southpaw bout for a minor WBA regional title. September 9th 2017-Traktor Sport Palace, Chelyabinsk, Russia Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov (10-0, 8) vs Emanuel Lopez (27-6-1, 12) In 2017 Russian based Tajik fighter Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov [Шавкатджон Рахимов] battled against Mexican fighter Emanuel Lopez for the vacant IBO Super Featherweight title. On paper this was a massive step up in class for Rakhimov, who had never previously gone beyond 6 rounds in his career. March 23rd 2019-RCC Boxing Academy, Ekaterinburg, Russia Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov (13-0, 10) vs Rofhiwa Maemu (18-7-2, 12) In March 2019 Russian based Tajik fighter Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov [Шавкатджон Рахимов] entered the ring seeking his third defense of the IBO Super Featherweight title. In the opposite corner to the 24 year old Southpaw was 27 year old South African challenger Rofhiwa Maemu, who was fighting outside of South Africa for just the 4th time in 28 bouts. In the opposite corner to Mirzaev was debuting Russian foe Aznaur Kalsynov. Interestingly Mirzaev's last fight was a 6 rounder at home back in July 2018, in which he lost a competitive decision to a then 4-1 fighter January 23rd 2021-RCC Boxing Academy, Ekaterinburg, Russia Abdurakhman Abdurakhmanov (0-0) vs Evgenii Tershukov (0-11) This past Saturday Kyrgyzstan fighter Abdurakhman Abdurakhmanov made his professional debut in Russia, where he faced off with the win-less Evgenii Tershukov. Although not a stand out amateur the the 23 year old Abdurakhmanov did compete in a number of notable amateur tournaments, and could be a dark horse for the future given his age and extensive amateur experience. January 23rd 2021-RCC Boxing Academy, Ekaterinburg, Russia Bahodur Yakubov (0-0) vs Viktor Vezhlivtsev (0-1) This past weekend Tajik fighter Bahodur Yakubov made his professional debut, kicking off his career with a bout against Russian novice Viktor Vezhlivtsev, who was looking to bounce back from a loss in his debut. This bout, scheduled for 4 rounds in the Featherweight division was promoted by RCC at their Boxing Acaemy in Ekaterinburg. January 23rd 2021-RCC Boxing Academy, Ekaterinburg, Russia Yerzhan Zalilov (11-3-1, 5) vs Vladimir Nikitin (4-1) This past Saturday in Russia we saw Kazakh fighter Yerzhan Zalilov take on former Russian amateur star Vladimir Nikitin, who took home bronze at 2016 Rio Olympics, at the RCC Boxing Academy in Ekaterinburg. January 23rd 2021-RCC Boxing Academy, Ekaterinburg, Russia Dmitry Yun (5-0, 1) vs Zhora Hamazaryan (9-2-2, 6) Yesterday in Russia the talented but light punching Dmitry Yun, a Uzbek born Russian who has previously fought out of the US, took on Zhora Hamazaryan, an Armenian who has fought in the US, in what looked like a very interesting match up on paper, and now the mismatch that some Russian betting companies had it. |
