It's not often we kick off a boxing week with a world title double header but that's exactly what we get today in Japan thanks to Watanabe Promotions in what appears to be the only card of note in Asia.
Held at the Ota-City General Gymnasium in Tokyo we see the determined Kohei Kono (28-7, 11) attempt to make the first defense of his WBA Super Flyweight title against "interim" champion Liborio Solis (14-3-1, 7). This bout, in detail has been previewed here.
The other title bout on the card is a much more promising prospective match up as WBA Super Featherweight title holder Takashi Uchiyama (19-0-1, 16) takes on the unbeaten Jaider Parra (20-0-1, 10). Although Parra is relatively unknown he is unbeaten and his brother, Lorenzo Parra, is a former champion who actually made 3 successful title defenses in Japan.
The Uchiyama v Parra bout will be the second successive title defense by Uchiyama against an unbeaten fighter, having beaten Bryan Vasquez last time out. Although on paper Uchiyama is a notable favourite it does need to be said that Parra isn't an awful fighter himself. This bout has been previewed in detail here.
Sadly we've not got details for the rest of the card, though we believe these two bouts will both be televised.
