It's rather odd to have noteworthy boxing on a Wednesday but that's what we have this week in Australia as former multi-weight world champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley battles fellow former multi-weight champion Anthony Mundine. Of course neither Mundine or Mosley is Asian but they do set the stage for several Asian fighters on the undercard.
The most notable of the Asian's on the card is former world title challenger Jimrex Jaca (38-6-3, 21). The highly regarded Filipino, ranked #15 by the WBO at Light Welterweight, will be looking to continue his winning streak as he takes on Australian veteran Chad Bennett (32-4-3, 23) in a bout to unify the WBO Oriental Light Welterweight title and the WBO Asia Pacific Light Welterweight title.
Ranked #8 by the WBO Bennett will be hoping the gamble pays off and that he can secure a world title fight with the new WBO world champion Ruslan Provodnikov. Aged 40 however Bennett will likely know that a loss will be the end of his career and the end of his dreams to be a world champion.
The second fight involving an Asian on the Australian card sees the Australia based Michael Correa (3-6-3, 1) looking to end a 4 fight losing streak. The Filipino will be fighting the unbeaten Valentine Borg (5-0, 3) who is unlikely to give away his unbeaten record with out a real fight for it. We're expecting Correa to give a solid a solid effort though drop a decision here.
Note-The Mundine/Mosley fight has been cancelled for unforeseen reasons, we're currently unsure on the status of the two bouts we've mentioned here.
