Although there is no notable male action today boxing fans in Tokyo can still get their fix of fistic action as fight fans get a female double header at the Korakuen Hall.
The main event of the card sees Japanese veteran Naoko Yamaguchi (20-3-3, 16) defending her WBA female Super Flyweight title against Italian challenger Loredana Piazza (9-1, 4). On paper this looks like an acceptable match up though in all honesty it's hard to imagine the challenger being successful against the hard hitting champion.
The support bout however is actually a really nicely matched bout that sees OPBF Super Flyweight champion Noriko Tsunoda (6-2, 4) make the first defense of her title against fellow Japanese fighter Tomoko Kawanishi (6-1, 2). Whilst the power seems to sit with Tsunoda on paper she is some 16 years older than her challenger which may act as a neautraliser of sorts.
It's rare that a support bout is expected to outshine the main event though this is a pretty clear case where the potential is for a very good "secondary" bout.
