On a very busy day of action around the world we kicked off in Thailand as former criminal turned boxing star Amnat Ruenroeng (10-0, 4) successfully defended his IBF Asia Flyweight title for the first time. Ruenroeng stopped Indonesian challenger Ricky Manufoe (22-18-2, 10) in the 3rd round after dropping him several times with very nasty looking body shots.
Manufoe never looked in the bout and was outclassed from the opening bell by a very talented Thai who will hopefully be moved into a major bout very soon.
The Thai card, televised by "Channel 7" came from the Bangkok Thonburi University Hall and featured several other televised bouts which we hope to have details on sooner rather than later. The only one we currently have was a 6 round victory for Fahlan Sakkreerin Jr (20-2, 13) who over came Sammy Hagler (16-15-2, 3) via a 6 round decision.
At the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo there was a 7 bout card thanks to Watanabe Promotions.
The main event saw Takehiro Shimokawara (19-8-2, 6) defeat Sanosuke Sasaki (11-3, 5) via decision whilst the co-main events saw Rikiya Fukuhara (27-7-1, 20) stop Keita Ito (8-16-2, 4) and Takashi Kunishige (25-9-2, 2) decision Kamkwan Soonkilabanmod (0-1).
On the undercard there were victories for Tatsuro Jin (1-0, 1), Takuma Okada (4-7, 2), Hiroomi Miyauchi (1-2) and Yoshihito Takahashi (2-0, 2).
In Russia Cruiserweight contender Rakhim Chakhkiev (16-1, 12) was unsuccessful in his challenge of Krzysztof Wlodarczyk (48-2-1, 34) for the WBC Cruiserweight title. The fight started well for Chakhkiev though he was eventually stopped in the 8th round in what was a notable betting upset. More on this result can read here.
On the same card as Chakhkiev's world title fight there was a PABA Cruiserweight title bout. In that bout the 30 year old Anar Mammadov (6-1) of Azerbaijan was out pointed by Russian Andrey Knyazev (8-0, 3) and suffered his first professional loss. And also a loss for the deubting Yana Lyashko (0-1) of Kyrgyzstan.
In the US the experienced Thai Fahsai Sakkreerin ( 39-4-1, 21) was stopped in an IBF Super Featherweight title eliminator by Cuban Rances Barthelemy (19-0 12). The bout saw the Thai never getting beyond the jab of Barthelemy who was much taller, rangier and faster and unfortunately this loss seems to have ended what was left of Sakkreerin's world title dreams.
Their was also a loss in the States for Filipino stalwart Juanito Rubillar (49-20-7, 24) who showed off his toughness on route to dropping a 6 round decision to the hard hitting John Amuzu (14-0, 13). Although Rubillar lost he did better than any of Amuzu's previous opponents.
In Canada fortunes were different for Filipino-Canadian Marc Pagcaliwangan (5-0, 5). Pagcaliwangan scored his 4th successive opening round victory as he defeated the limited John Brown (0-2) in just 1 minute.
We try and give you the latest results on all the fights from Asia.
