Falcunaya continues rise
This past Sunday saw the Asian action continue thanks to two cards through out Asia.
The most interesting of the two cards in Asia was fought in the Philippines thanks to Kambal Kamao Boxing Promotions who put on a 6 fight show at the Lipa City Youth Cultural Center.
In the show's opening bouts Jiro Saonoy (1-3) scored his first professional victory over-coming the win-less Honesto Luha (0-3) by split decision and Julbert Tubiano (1-0, 1) won a battle of debutants stopping Ronie R H Gaton (0-1) in the second of a scheduled 4 rounds.
The sole 6 round bout on the show saw Jhon Gemino (9-2, 3) score his 8th straight victory as he overcame Jonel Borbon (1-11-1, 1) via second round KO. This was followed by two bouts scheduled for 8 round bouts. The "lesser" of these 8 rounders saw Marbon Bodiongan (9-1-2, 7) defeating Jerald Cortes (3-8-4, 2) via a clear 8 round decision.
In the more interesting of the bouts scheduled for 8 rounds the unbeaten, and highly promising, Val Falcunaya (8-0, 6) blasted out Ryan Soliveres (5-21-1, 1) in just 118 seconds. This was the 4th straight stoppage victory for Falcunaya who looks like he now needs moving up a level before he gets a little too used to opponents who can't take his power.
The sole 10 round bout saw the experienced Mark Sales (20-35-3, 6) secure his 20th professional victory thanks to a 3rd round retirement of Rex Olisa (9-21-1, 7).
Over in Japan "Orio" promotions put on a 9 fight show full of novices. These bouts saw Light Flyweight debutant Toshiki Yanari (1-0, 1) stopping Kento Yasumoto (0-2) in the second round in what was 1 of 4 stoppages on the show. The show's other stoppages saw Masafumi Suda (1-0, 1) taking out Yoshiharu Tanaka (0-2), Shogo Maeda (1-0, 1) stopping Takehiko Hokketsu (0-1) and Hiroya Kojima (2-0, 2) taking out name sake Yoichi Kojima (0-1), with all 3 of these coming in the second round.
In bouts that went the distance we saw two draws as Nobuya Sugimoto (1-2-1) was held by Takumi Imasato (3-3-1) and Masanori Maeda (0-1-1) fought to a draw with the debuting Daisuke Terumoto (0-0-1).
The remaining fights, which all went the scheduled 4 rounds, saw Yuta Motoyama (1-1) taking a split decision over Garyu Takuma (1-4, 1), Yukinori Yamaguchi (1-0) taking a majority decision over Taichi Yoshizato (0-1) and Kana Fukuda (1-0) taking a victory in the sole female bout, defeating Yuma Kaino (0-2).
As well as the two Asian cards there was also a bout in Britain with an Asian interest as Syrian born journeyman Youssef Al Hamidi (12-61-3, 1) suffered his 9th loss of the year. Al Hamidi was defeated by Ryan Corrigan (2-0) via unanimous decision
