Sometimes a very interesting looking show falls apart after a fighter is forced out of a contest and unfortunately that's what happened in Japan recently when the Shirai-Gushiken card, dubbed Vol.46 The Kanmuriwashi Fight, had one of it's main event fighters pull out.
The original main event was supposed to be a WBA female Super Flyweight title defense for the hard hitting and talented Naoko Yamaguchi (22-3-3, 18). Yamaguchi was lined up to take on Argentinian Daniela Romina Bermudez, a very credible challenger, though unfortunately Bermudez was unable to compete. Instead Yamaguchi was kept on the show but put in a non-title bout with Thai journey woman Chuthaporn Pradissan (5-15) who lasted less than a round.
Despite the pull out in the main event the rest of the card was acceptable with veteran Kayoko Ebata (7-4, 4) defeating former WBA Minimumweight champion Cho Rong Son (11-4, 3) for the OPBF Flyweight title in the chief support bout. This was surprisingly the 5th time Ebata had fought for a title though it was her first victory in a title bout.
The remainder of the card was all rookies, with the most memorable being Hokuto Kawana (1-0, 1) who made an impactful statement on his debut, taking out Ryuta Kozasa (0-2) in just 55 seconds.
The rookie bouts also saw Kenichi Miyazaki (4-0-1, 1) stopping Littletyson Tanaka (3-1, 2) in the 3rd round of their contest, Yoshimichi Matsumoto (3-0, 2) narrowly overcome Naoki Koishi (2-1) via a split decision and Kenta Yamada (5-2) take a clear decision over Yuki Miyoshi (2-1).
