A few hours ago we reported that Yutaka Oishi (14-6, 7) [大石 豊] had lost the OPBF Light Middleweight title to determined Thai challenger Ratchasi Sithsaithong (8-3, 6), who scored a shock 12th round TKO whilst a mile behind on the score cards.
We have now been informed that after the fight Oishi fell unconcious after the bout and was immediately rushed to hospital in Osaka.
Although he's woke up without the need for surgery we do understand that he's being given a really serious battery of tests before being released from the hospital. It does sound like the early signs are suggesting there is no major issue at the moment, but it's clear that no risks are being taken on Oishi's health at the moment.
The Japanese fighter had entered as a world ranked contender as well as the OPBF champion but will now be questioning his future in the sport, even if he does come back with a clean bill of health. A scare like this could well be the end for a fighter who is now 32.
