Earlier today saw former Japanese Light Middleweight champion Yuki Nonaka (25-8-2, 9) meet with the local mayor of Amagasaki, Kazumi Inamura.
The meeting saw Nonaka promising to re-claim the national title at 154lbs when he fights Takayuki Hosokawa (25-10-3, 8) on August 10th whilst Mayor Inamura wished the fighter good luck for the fight which promises to be a very tough bout for both men.
Whilst this meeting might not mean much to western fans, who likely have no idea over the fighter or the mayor are, it was still a significant meeting for both individuals involved. Nonaka might not be an international star but a meeting at this level is certainly an honour for a fighter. Likewise Ms Inamura is a great political figure who has become one of the hottest young politicians in Japan and was the first Green Mayor in the countries history. The fact she has an interest in boxing might see her trying to promote the sport more in the local area, never a bad thing.
