At the end of last month we broke the news that WBC Minimumweight champion Wanheng Menayothin (37-0, 12) would be defending his title against Korean fighter Young Kil Bae (26-4-1, 21) on June 2nd in Bangkok. It's now been reported, by our great friends over at www.thairec.com, that that bout won't be going ahead as Bae, otherwise known as Myung Goo Yuh, has unfortunately suffered a training injury.
From what we under-stand Menayothin will still be going ahead with his title defense however his team are now scuttling around to find a suitable contender.
From what we understand they have requested that the WBC give a world ranking to Japanese fighter Tatsuya Fukuhara (14-4-5, 5), who fought to a draw with recent IBF title challenger Fahlan Sakkreerin Jr last year, however if the WBC don't allow Fukuhara to fight for the title then the situation could be a mess for Menayothin and his team.
For those unaware of Fukuhara he has twice fought in Thailand, in fact he's unbeaten there with a draw against Fahlan Sakkreerin Jr and a 2nd round TKO win over Pangporn Por Singdet, though is best known for losing a wide decision to a then debuting Takuma Inoue.
Our friends over at Thairec have reported that a press conference will be held next week to clarify the situation regarding the match up.
