Wanheng Menayothin and Jeffrey Galero make weight for WBC Minimumweight title bout
Tomorrow in Thailand fans will get the chance to see WBC Minimumweight champion Wanheng Menayothin (36-0, 12) defend his belt for the first time as he battles against unbeaten Filipino challenger Jeffrey Galero (11-0, 5). Today saw both men take part in their weigh in and thankfully both men made weight at their first attempt, though specific weight details haven't yet been made available to us.
The fight will see the unknown Galero fighting in his first world title fight as he attempts to go from "unknown" to world champion. Wanheng on the other hand will be doing his best to retain the title he won last year when he stopped Oswaldo Novoa.
The winner of the bout is expected to be made a big financial offer from Kiyoshi Hatanaka to go and fight in April or May in Nagoya against Hatanaka's teenage sensation Kosei Tanaka (4-0, 2). That financial reward will be a big incentive to win this match up with has the potential to be interesting given the showing Galero had in his opening training session yesterday with WBA interim champion Knockout CP Freshmart (9-0, 5).
The bout, for those interested in watching it, will be on Thai channel 7 tomorrow at 14:00 and 17:00 local time and will be one of 3 very interesting bouts on the card which also features fights involving Chanchai CP Freshmart (1-0, 1), the WBC Youth Minimumweight champion, and Kongputorn CPFreshmart (5-0, 3)*, the WBC Youth Light Flyweight champion, who are both defending their titles.
[*Boxrec refuse to acknowledge Kongputorn's debut win over Veeradej Manoprungroj, which can be seen here]
