Yesterday we reported that that former world title challenger Tomomi Takano (8-2, 5) [高野人母美] had vacated the OPBF female Super Bantamweight title. Today saw confirmation as to why Tomomi had vacated the belt, and what the future holds for the model-come-boxer.
According to reports in the Japanese press today Tomomi has vacated belt to move down in weight, and will be carving out her career as a Bantamweight going forward, with the probability being that the leggy model will be better suited to 118lbs than 122lbs.
Whilst Tomomi vacating has robbed us, fans, of a "model showdown" with Ayumi Goto (5-0, 4) [後藤あゆみ] it seems like Takano's team are wishing the best to Goto going forward, and it seems like Takano's team have basically pushed their fighter to vacate, ending what has been a very disappointing reign. That reign lasted for over a year, but saw Takano fail to defend the title at all, and it's little wonder that Goto and her team had been pressing for a shot in recent months, with Goto having been ranked #1 for quite some time.
