We've known for a while that Japanese youngster Riku Kano (6-1-1, 4) would be in action in Osaka on September 27th. In fact it was sources connected to Kano who also revealed the fact that Kazuto Ioka would be fighting Roberto Domingo Sosa on September 27th, with Kano being one of the under-card bouts.
Today we finally found out who Kano would be fighting and, once again, his team revealed that they were targeting the Japanese age record in regards to the youngest Japanese world champion.
The youngster has been matched 20 year old domestic foe Kenta Matsui (6-4, 1), a light punching opponent who has yet to be stopped. Whilst Matsui is a "safe" option for Kano it will also be the first time he has faced a Japanese opponent.
Whilst the match up certainly isn't the best it is a chance for Kano to get some experience of fighting on a big show and is another logical step up in class. It is also the next step forward with his team hoping to move Kano on to a world ranked foe in the winter before a title fight, either a Japanese or OPBF, in the coming spring.
