In the West we known Thai promoters better for the way they name their fighters than their promotional accomplishments. It's due to the promoters that we have so many fighters using names like "Kokietgym" and one "Onesongchaigym". Despite that it does seem like one promoter wants to make a statement this year and really announce themselves on Western fans.
That is Diamond boxing.
According to our source one of the bouts Diamond are trying to make would see them luring WBA Bantamweight champion Jamie McDonnell (25-2-1, 12) over to Thailand to fight against former world title challenger Panomroonglek Kaiyanghadaogym (44-2, 26). That bout would depend on one of two things, either talks between McDonnell and WBO champion Tomoki Kameda (31-0, 19) fail despite looking like a done deal, or that Panomroonglek waits to fight the winner.
Knowing what we know of McDonnell's situation we're happy to say we can't see that bout being made. Saying that however one Thai source had suggested the that Diamond were "90%" confident that the bout was done, a staggering figure considering the McDonnell/Kameda situation.
The other bout, and the more likely of the bouts, would see WBA "interim" Minimumweight champion Knockout CP Freshmart (10-0, 5) battling against WBA "regular" champion Hekkie Budler (28-1, 9). From what we understand this would take a notable offer from Diamond but certainly not be an impossible bout to make given that boxing in South Africa is close to being dead with a number of issues plaguing the countries domestic scene at the moment.
How close we to actually getting Knockout Vs Budler is anyone's guess but this does seem a very likely bout in the next 12 months or so given the title status of both men and the way Diamond have put big money, at least for a Minimumweight, behind Knockout and his rise through the ranks.
