Earlier today WBA "regular" Super Bantamweight champion Shun Kubo (12-0, 9) [久保隼] attended a special meeting today in Kyoto City. He was joined at the meeting by promoter Masato Yamashita, from Shinsei Promotions, who revealed that not only were they planning to have Kubo defend his title in August but that plans were under-way for another world title bout to be held in August.
That other world title bout will see WBO Minimumweight champion Tatsuya Fukuhara (19-4-6, 7) [福原 辰弥] making the first defense of his title and battling against Shinsei's Ryuya Yamanaka (14-2, 4) [山中 竜也], who will be looking to add the WBO title to his career achievements which already includes a short reign as the OPBF Minimumweigth champion.
Although it doesn't seem like there is a set date or venue for Fukuhara Vs Yamanaka the hope will be to hold the bout as part of a double header, along with Kubo's planned defense against mandatory challenger Daniel Roman (22-2-1, 8). Potentially if the bouts do happen as a double header then fight fans are going to be set for another great show later in the year and Shinsei could end up with two champions, or Fukuhara could end up further establishing his reign.
