We've known for a while that Japanese Middleweight champion Hikaru Nishida (15-8-1, 7) [西田 光] would be defending his title on September 14th, against former champion Makoto Fuchigami (23-11, 13) [淵上 誠], with the two fighters meeting for the third time in the space of 3 years. What we weren't aware of was the supporting bouts for that match up.
Today we have been informed that the co-headline bout will be the first WBO Asia Pacific title fight to take place in Japan as former Japanese Featherweight title challenger Takuya Watanabe(29-6-1, 15) [渡邉 卓也] faces off against former Indonesian Featherweight champion Musa "Andy" Letding (11-5-4, 6) in a bout for the WBO Asia Pacific Super Featherweight title.
For Watanabe this will be a chance to claim a third title, following reigns as the WBC Youth Lightweight and IBF Asia Featherweight champion. It will also potentially open doors to the WBO world rankings and see him step up after 3 straight forward wins over Thai opponents, following a narrow loss to Satoshi Hosono last October.
As for Letding this is a chance to claim his first international title, following reigns as the KTI/IBC and the ATI/IBA Featherweight champions. In recent bouts he has gone 2-2 with losses coming in a WBA Oceania Lightweight title fight and a WBO Oriental Lightweight title fight, with those losses coming to Brandon Ogilvie and Juan Martin Elorde respectively.
We have featured videos of both men below, along with the official poster from the show.
