Earlier today fight fans in Fukuoka saw local hopeful Takumi Sakae (16-2-1, 11) [栄 拓海] take a step towards getting a second Japanese title fight, as he defeated a Thai visitor in 4 rounds.
The 23 year old from Kitakyushu looked in control from the off, dropping the Thai early in the bout. There was however a risk of himbecoming complacent, and that proved to be the case as he was dropped himself from a right hand, thought it was more a balance issue than a hurtful knockdown.
Following the knockdown the local quickly got back to his feet, and closed the show the following round, as he dropped the Thai for a second time. Again the visitor showed his desire to win by recovering back to his feet, but a follow up attack soon afterwards forced the referee's hand and forced the stoppage.
Following the bout Sakae seemed to suggest that another title fight was around the corner, and a potential showdown with Reiya Konishi (13-0, 5) [小西 伶弥] would be an interesting match up later in the year.
